Do you do an online shop if you haven't got transport?

This is most sensible, or do a couple of shops along with another adult to bag carry

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/04/2023 18:15

We used to walk there and get a taxi back.
This was the only time we ever got a taxi. My dad was disabled and unable to help.

Online shop definitely. The price of delivery can easily be the same or cheaper than a bus there and back or a taxi.

PuttingDownRoots · 26/04/2023 18:16

Online shopping
Smaller trips by foot or bike
Taxi

mast0650 · 26/04/2023 18:16

I have got transport, but do my weekly shop online anyway.

Nonverbalmum · 26/04/2023 18:17

I have a delivery every week on the same day, village shop for top ups, our local shop also does free deliveroo orders with a £7 minimum spend so if I was genuinely stuck at home that would be an option.

This isn’t down to not driving it’s just a thousand times easier than the food shop turning into a family event taking the kids and DH who likes to ‘see what they have’.

Xrays · 26/04/2023 18:17

We used to go 3/4 times a week and just get what we could carry.

Saffronn · 26/04/2023 18:17

Big online shop once a month or so for heavy non-perishables (tins, washing powder, nappies ect).

Weekly shop with a very glam trolly!

Regular top ups of bread and milk from a Tesco express.

I’ve never had a car so I don’t find it tricky.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 26/04/2023 18:17

I have a car but I still get an online food shop as a) it's quicker and b) the shop the delivery comes from has a better selection than our local one.

Curiosity101 · 26/04/2023 18:18

Also as a PP said - I do my weekly shop online and get it delivered even though I do have a car.

It saves time on the trip there and back. It's quicker than browsing the shop in person and checking out. It's also cheaper as it's easier to compare offers/prices and it's easier to avoid impulse purchases.

GoodChat · 26/04/2023 18:18

Get a good rucksack and just buy what you can carry.

WellTidy · 26/04/2023 18:19

Public transport there, taxi back. Lots of supermarkets have a phone by the checkout available to the public which links to a local taxi firm.

Precipice · 26/04/2023 18:20

You don't treat it as a weekly shop. You are allowed into shops more often, you know!

I take my rucksack and additional carrier bags and I walk home. I probably do go into a particular shop only once a week or so, but I only buy things for myself.

CastleTower · 26/04/2023 18:21

When I didn't have a car, I shopped most days on the way home from work. Plus occasionally online orders for bulky stuff.

We still don't really do a "weekly" shop tbh.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 26/04/2023 18:31

I don’t do a weekly shop. I usually go in a shop every day on the way home from work.

if/when I did a bigger shop, I’d walk to the shop, and walk home.

Sixfaithfulservingfriends · 26/04/2023 18:33

Before having a car I used to take a big rucksack to the supermarket on the bus.

These days I drive and have a car but order home shopping deliveries. I actually save money as I’m not popping stuff in the trolley that catches my eye.

Merrow · 26/04/2023 18:35

Online shop, pull along trolley when doing an in person shop that's more than a few things. DP laughed at me for it but was converted when a lidl opened locally!

Hendalle · 26/04/2023 18:37

On foot, with a trolley. I call it my granny trolley, though my granny’s wasn’t as nice as mine 😝

TheFutureIs · 26/04/2023 18:38

I use my old pushchair. Easily carries a whole weeks worth of groceries (I do get loo roll/cleaning products delivered)

shiningstar2 · 26/04/2023 18:40

I have a car but stil do a fortnightly on line shop. The cost of online is far cheaper than a taxi. I pay monthly £6. and could have a weekly shop for the same price if I needed it. I prefer to tip up fresh food in between at local shops. The online is great because I also shop for mum aged 92. Saves me roaming the shop with a list for the particular items and brands she likes.

GettingStuffed · 26/04/2023 18:41

We do most online and then walk (or cycle)into town for top ups

WickedSerious · 26/04/2023 18:41

I've never done a weekly shop.

Choconutty · 26/04/2023 18:43

Bought less, went shopping more often - Rucksack on back, baby on front, bag in each hand. Local mini market most of the time, sometimes took the bus to the big supermarket.

very occasionally used a taxi

If I had a hire car for another reason, I'd do a massive shop for things like toilet rolls.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 26/04/2023 18:43

The supermarket’s 10 mins walk away. I go twice a week, early morning when it’s quiet, take a rucksack & get what I can carry.
