Do you do an online shop if you haven't got transport?

Asda do a mid week delivery pass for £35 a year, works out 68p per week. They pick, pack and deliver. Saves time and money and there's just essentials, and asda rewards...

I grew up in the olden days before online shopping (before online anything!) and my single-parent didn't drive. We used public transport and bought little and often rather than a massive weekly shop. Couldn't afford to bulk buy anyway so nobody was heaving 24 toilet rolls or a mega-box of washing power home.

LauderSyme · 26/04/2023 18:50

I go several times a week on the bus or on foot, always take a rucksack and sometimes a shopping trolley. We get through so much milk and it's heavy!

I have got transport, but do my weekly shop online anyway.

Me too.

Mabelface · 26/04/2023 18:53

Rucksack for smaller shops, taxi back if I do a bigger one.

emmaw1405 · 26/04/2023 18:55

We are a family of 7 and haven't had a car for nearly a year - I tend to go each morning on my way back from school and get things for that night and the next day. Also top up on a Saturday and Sunday but have a Sainsbury's 5 minutes walk away. We borrow my MIL's car if we need to do a big shop for the week such as half term or Christmas.

bruffin · 26/04/2023 18:57

When dc were little i had big basket in the pushchair so used that, now get it delivered

TheWildOnesRunningWithTheDogs · 26/04/2023 19:01

Online shop for heavy bulk buys (tinned tomatoes, pulses, rice, etc), local shops for fruit and vegetables, milk, meat and fish. It also helps us waste less fresh food because we only get it when we need it.

DanceMonster · 26/04/2023 19:02

I have a car but still shop online. It’s easier.

On foot, with a trolley. I call it my granny trolley, though my granny’s wasn’t as nice as mine 😝

My friend has one.of them and absolutely loves it. She can fit loads in!
I do online shop

Labradorandme · 26/04/2023 19:03

I don't drive and walk to a bigger supermarket (about 15 mins away) once or twice a week and just carry what I can. It can be frustrating when I can't carry everything we need. Plus the bags can be really heavy but it's probably doing me good!

I also go to a smaller shop for bread, milk, etc, most days. And I do an online order every few weeks for all the bulky stuff.

Sissynova · 26/04/2023 19:05

Online shop every 1.5/2 week and pick up various bits fresh a few times a week.

TheKeatingFive · 26/04/2023 19:06

I have a sholley

Scunnered123 · 26/04/2023 19:08

Family of five, no car, couple of trips to the supermarket each week (20 min walk each way) with a big rucksack and plenty of spare bags. It's never been a problem, you just need to know what you're going for and plan. Also use a basket in shop so I know I'm not picking up more than I can carry.

SquidwardBound · 26/04/2023 19:10

I do an online shop. Sometimes on Amazon fresh where you can order a full shop and often have it delivered about 3 hours later (so conveniently last minute).

Or I grab things as needed from the supermarket (there are 3 within 10 minute’s walk of my house).

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 26/04/2023 19:10

I live under 10 minutes walk from a large aldi store. Walk there and back with a large shopping trolley (more like a suitcase than the ones you see grannies with). Every 6 weeks or so I do a sainsburys order to stock up on non-pershiables that aldi don't stock.

MindIfISlytherin · 26/04/2023 19:12

We have a car but always walk to the supermarket as it's very close. Meals come via a subscription service (HelloFresh, Gousto etc.) - for everything else we take a rucksack and a bag for life or two each (but we are a 2 person household so not loads of shopping).

TooOldForThisNonsense · 26/04/2023 19:14

Online or a taxi

User678945 · 26/04/2023 19:14

I have a car but I also have a disability which makes doing a big shop hard (and quite frankly I don't want to use my energy up walking round a supermarket).... so I do a big online shop once a month and in between pop to the corner shop to buy bread and milk.

EmmaEmerald · 26/04/2023 19:15

I started a thread looking for sholley suggestions but got no replies

I used to be near an Aldi but moved. I can walk to Sainsbury but Aldi is cheaper and better.

deliveries - the cab ride back from Aldi is cheaper, plus the items are cheaper.

Lilbunnyfufu · 26/04/2023 19:15

I use my granny trolley it's falling apart now after many years will treat myself to a new one soon.

Everydayimhuffling · 26/04/2023 19:16

Online (not every week) plus small shops in between for things we need more regularly.

Ted27 · 26/04/2023 19:17

No car here
We don't eat a lot of meat but I go to the local butcher (5mins walk) every 2-3 weeks and stock up on sausages, burgers and chicken, occasional joint.
I get most of my fruit and veg from the local greengrocers (10mins walk) once a week.
get most of cleaning stuff from the organic/refill shop every 2- 3 weeks. (15mins walk)
I work from home so all of those make a good lunch break
Have a co op and dozens of corner shops for odd bits.
Go to supermarket once every 2 -3 weeks for cat food, cereals, tinned stuff. It's 15 mins walk from my allotment and gym so usually go on my way home from which ever one I've been to. Taxi home.

shivawn · 26/04/2023 19:19

We have a car but don't really use it for shopping. We have Aldi and another big supermarket within a few minutes walk and don't like to decide what we're going to eat more than a couple days in advance so just pop across as needed.

kitsuneghost · 26/04/2023 19:19

I remember shops having dedicated taxi phones at the front of the shop
