To have shouted at him?

There's a man who lives down the road to me. He's about late sixties to early seventies. A few times now when I have been walking along, he has jogged right up behind me and when I have moved, he says 'It's fine, I'm not following you.' Today I was walking along and I felt someone literally right at my back. I turned and it was him. He really frightened me so I stepped to the side and told him to get some fucking self awareness and stop creeping up on me. He said to calm down but I told him to eff off again. Now feeling shaken up but I'm sorry you just don't behave like that around women.

I think you did the right thing. I wish I’d been braver when the same thing happened to me.

gooseduckchicken · 26/04/2023 13:47

I think you did the right thing. Some people can't be reasoned with, but they understand "fuck off".

Redebs · 26/04/2023 13:49

If he does it again, spray him!

lovemelongtime · 26/04/2023 13:54

So is he a jogger? Or did he jog up to you then stop? Weird either way

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/04/2023 13:54

He’ll know fine what he’s doing. He needs a good earful every time.

catinthesunshine · 26/04/2023 13:56

You did the right thing. Hope you’re ok.

Blondey2023 · 26/04/2023 13:57

Totally did the right thing. Can gaurantee he doesn't do this to a man jogging!!

Campervangirl · 26/04/2023 13:59

Bravo op 👏
Hopefully that'll make him think twice before doing it again to you or anyone else.
He knows what he's doing and relies on not being challenged.

StupidFaces · 26/04/2023 14:00

“You’re lucky I didn’t pepper spray you, creeping up on me like that”

could you turn suddenly when he’s right near you and scream in his face? Just say you were frightened?

Irisandillies · 26/04/2023 14:05

It’s not clear, is he out jogging or did he run up to you.

if he was jogging would he not have had to go in the road or something, would you prefer he shouts a warning in advance, can you not hear him jogging up?

Don’t be sorry you shouted at him. There’s a man around the same age who lives near me and walks his dog in a local park that does the same. He’s a total weirdo and the dog is reactive which many of us think he uses to try and intimidate females. I bawl at him every single time he’s following me and others do the same. It’s been reported loads of times to the police but they won’t do anything as it’s a public park, he’s not doing anything wrong and the dog is on a lead. He’s been warned by a few men but doesn’t take any notice tbh. It’ll only be a matter of time before someone belts him for his behaviour.

Softoprider · 26/04/2023 14:16

Yes OP You were perfectly within your rights to have shouted at him.

About a week ago I was walking with my dogs in the park with a friend. My dogs were off-lead - always have them off-lead as they behave and come when I call.
My friend's dog always wants to fight other dogs so she keeps him on a tight lead. She was pushing a pram and I had the dog on the lead.

A dog came running up to us fussing around my dogs. Our dog on the lead was lunging at it, and when it came near we looked for the owner who was standing a distance away just staring at us.
He could see his dog and the trouble it was causing and did nothing.
He walked up to us and we asked him if this was his dog and could he get it on a lead please as our dog was dragging me around wanting to fight.
He did not answer - he just stared ! then as we moved on he followed us !

This is a long story so I will cut it short just to say he followed us and did not speak, nor did he do anything about his bloody dog which was a nuisance to say the least. Then he said "Quack quack ducky" to my friend.
She called him a rude name. He followed even more closely now and other people were watching. It was almost as if he was getting off on our reactions.
If we had been men none of this would have happened. He would have got his dog on a lead and moved on. Because we were women he treated us like some sort of idiots
The kind of men who behave like this to women they do not know must have a screw loose IMHO

Who the fuck does that.

Well who the fucks continuously runs up behind someone?

SunsetsInVenice · 30/04/2023 12:05

Thanks all. It's put me off walking down that road which is stupid but dont want to encounter him again. He really does freak me out and made me feel really unsettled.
