I can imagine him sat in his lovely leather desk chair wondering what all the fuss is about! For the record my bank account accepted I was poorer a while ago now!!! He is right but he cannot read a room let alone a struggling country! He is another suit pointing out the bleeding obvious in a way to get peoples backs up and daft enough to think the media wouldnt run it to death.

tallcypowder · 27/04/2023 06:34

Well no it doesn't. A particular type of politics caused this. Why should we regress?

You are missing my point.

Whatever the politics behind it, we are becoming poorer compared to our peer countries.

It is a fact that has to be accepted. That's very different to saying "it's fine" or thinking it's ok.

You, and many others, are missing the point type BoE is making. They are not saying it's ok. They are telling people to stop burying their heads in the sand with regard to the UK's wealth (or lack of).

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 27/04/2023 08:44

Well, he's doing a bit more than saying we have to accept the country being poorer. He's also saying that people should behave in a particular way as a consequence of it. The fact that we're now poorer isn't up for debate and does indeed have to be accepted. What that means for a particular individual is something else altogether.

Kendodd · 27/04/2023 09:05

I hope none of you whinging on this thread about being poorer have been voting Tory or Brexit all these years. If you have, how dare you now complain about the extreme levels of poverty you have inflicted on the rest of us and that are now touching you.
In 2016 the UK economy was 90% the size of Germany's, now its below 70%.
The poorest 20% in the UK are now poorer the the poorest 20% in Poland and several other eastern European countries. If trends continue their middle class will be richer than ours in a decade.
Hundreds of thousands of people in the UK have had lives cut short due to Tory austerity.
Life expectancy is actually falling for poorer people here.
Public services falling apart to such an extent Ukrainian refugees are returning to a fucking war zone so they can see a dentist.

This is what you voted for and inflicted on the rest of us.
How dare you whinge if it now affects you.

Greenfairydust · 27/04/2023 09:05

Funny how it is always the wealthy who tell the rest of us that we should be fine with being poor...

But you never see MPs and the like leading by example and saying no to pay rises and generous expenses policies.

Vile hypocrites.

The sooner the Tory party loses power the better.

I think the system got broken once politicians forgot that we put them in power and that they are elected to govern for the people.

Not to continue to make themselves wealthy and privileged while everyone else struggles.

I mean, the irony is
free market
labour shortage

of course people will ask for pay rise....he is literally being a total muppet if he doesn't get that free market applies to us as well as him.

Quite, the market for skilled workers such as doctors is global. It’s as stupid as asking the tide not to come in.

Tbf, the MN demographic is more Remain and left leaning than the population as a whole, so I suspect a lot of us on the thread will come from the I fucking told you so school of thought on this one.

OnlyTheBravest · 27/04/2023 10:40

@Kendodd Do you remember why some people stopped voting for Labour and allowed the Conservatives in. Tony Blair took the UK into war that we protested against and said no. He did it anyway.
People not wanting to vote Labour, voted in the Lib Dems and the very first thing they did was to triple student loans, completely going against their manifesto.
The real people to blame are successive failures in government from all sides and an unelected media pushing its own agenda. It makes no difference who is in power. The rich want to stay rich and have been able to fleece workers for years. This situation has been coming for years, Brexit, lockdown and the war just sped it up.
What we the people need to do is stop arguing and blaming each other, hold our governments accountable and demand real change.

Can't believe you've fallen for the 'they're all the same' bollocks.

SwirlyShirly · 27/04/2023 13:59

I think at this point I would be really embarrassed to be a billionaire. It's so shameful that one individual can have so much wealth that they literally don't need (it's literally just sitting their growing and growing) when there is so much struggle and suffering, it's immoral and I couldn't sit on top of it all.

3BSHKATS · 27/04/2023 14:01

Predict a riot .... well sadly not actually but there ought to be guillotines rolling down the strand instead of carriages and dickheads waving flags next weekend

Completely with you on the flag waving dickheads - some of whom are probably struggling to pay their own bills.

The govt. won't even tell us how much they're throwing away on this bloody coronation. Scandalous.

I think there is a deep instinct to genuflect before leaders that many people are unable to override and the people at the top are able to exploit to their massive and everlasting benefit

'Fuck off, cunt.'

This....absolutely this. The overpaid overprivileged cunt needs to shut his pie hole

NatWest, meanwhile, reported pretax profit that leapt 49% to 1.8 billion pounds ($2.24 billion), above an average of analyst forecasts of 1.6 billion pounds.

I'm thrilled for them!

BP $5 billion reported to today, surprised them, I'm surprised they were surprised.
