To be feeling anxious about 2024 US elections.

l’m not really a hugely political person and I don’t claim to know the ins and outs of global politics.

But I’ve heard today that next year sounds like it’s going to be Biden vs Trump.

I know Biden doesn’t seem to be doing great things and he’s going to be pretty old by the time this all happens. I know trump is a fair age too, but mentally seems a bit sharper. I also know there’s a lot of kick back against all things “woke” which we know Trump is very much in the opposite direction.

However my biggest concern is that while Putin is still being a nutter the last thing the world needs is another nutter who will probably then trigger WWIII and the end of humanity.

Then I look at the state of UK politics and internally panic a bit more because we are looking pretty hopeless in all of this.

AIBU to be feeling edgy about a Right wing uprising and Trump’s comeback?

I really hope IABVVVU.

It seems bizarre that it looks like a rerun of the last election- Biden v. Trump again- it is like the UKsystem and only comes down to a few swing voters to decide the outcome of the election and at the moment it seems like they are solidly behind Biden - I’m not sure how he would come across in a debate though- he’s obviously so frail that the team behind him must be running the show- he’s like an old Soviet leader, just a figurehead.

Absolutely! It’s all really unnerving. America is such a complex place politically and it holds so much power.

so much quietly worries me. AI and its potential to take over. The fast failing NHS and gen X being dropped in a health grinder. But this seems more of an imminent concern that might wipe the other two out anyway.

Aren't you forgetting about primaries? It's not a done deal by a long way

GoodChat · 26/04/2023 06:11

I highly doubt it'll end up Biden v Trump again. I wouldn't worry.

Greentree1 · 26/04/2023 06:16

Don't worry about things you can do nothing about. Sit back and enjoy the show, there's a lot to come before the US election anyway. Trump seems to have lost a bit of his devoted following and I think Biden may be considered too old to run, lots of dark horses out there. But they may not be any better of course.

This sounds promising! I really hope it’s correct. Trump is just always so desperate for power.

Won’t Trump be in prison??

AutumnCrow · 26/04/2023 06:52

Maybe Biden’s team are playing a clever game here, trying to spook the Republicans into NOT picking Trump and therefore not risking a Biden-Trump rerun.

(Biden really should have prepared a credible successor.)

Or maybe it is just a massive shitshow.

cushioncovers · 26/04/2023 06:52

I really wouldn't worry about it at the moment.

Moanranger · 26/04/2023 06:58

Y’all are greatly underestimating Biden. He’s never been a great public speaker, but has always been, and continues to be a v shrewd political operator. Don’t buy into the DM hype. I agree his age is a concern & Dems really need to work on succession. Biden has accomplished a lot, & the UK should take a good look at the Inflation Reduction Act: this will transform the US economy, make it greener.

What happened to Kamala Harris? She was supposed to be his successor.

AutumnCrow · 26/04/2023 07:05

I don’t think Kamala Harris’s poll ratings are good enough.

She is also associated more with the Democrats’ descent into extreme gender ideology (which isn’t popular when people become aware of its ramifications) than Biden.

But she’s staying on his ‘ticket’ I believe. Probably has to really at this stage or looks bad.

MrsHughesPinny · 26/04/2023 07:09

We haven’t even gotten to the Primaries. I’d be surprised if the GOP decides they want Trump to be their guy, he’s really divided the party.

ChaToilLeam · 26/04/2023 07:15

It is concerning. Both are awful.
