Strange parking with diagram!

So I am prepared to be told I’m in the wrong here but be aware I have so far done nothing or said nothing! I’ve attached a diagram, I live at number 1. Bloke who lives at number 5 works an early shift so gets home when the whole road is totally clear of parked cars, chooses to park directly outside my house. When I get home, he is always parked there despite there being loads of space directly outside his house. I can’t think of any sensible reason why he would do this unless it’s because he’s scared of parallel parking and the space directly outside my house is on one end of the row. Although the other end of the row of cars is closer to his house. WIBU to put a polite note on his car asking him to choose a space closer to his house when there is space? It’s really bloody annoying to come home with a boot full of food shopping and see that’s he’s there again and I struggle up the road from the space outside his bloody house! But yes it’s a public road and we can all do whatever we want essentially as no one has any right to park anywhere in particular but it’s just inconsiderate and irritating. This only started about 6 months ago for some unknown reason. Before that, I think he just parked by his own house

Why a note? Why don't you go and have a chat with him? Surely a discussion is more likely to lead to understanding/less likely to result in tension.

@SirTarquin

Excellent post

Annoying as it is I am afraid their is nothing you can do about it and therefore no reason to speak to him about it.

Thatladdo · 28/04/2023 11:08

A conversation is the only way, leaving notes is plain childish.
I appreciate it would be a difficult conversation, mainly because you have very little grounds to complain.
It reminds me of when I had no choice other than parking on a public road before I "flew the nest" and arrived at my car at maybe 5am to find a note informing me "park here again and ill burn your bastard car out", which I ammended car to house and returned it through their front door letterbox.

A conversation will end in a result there and then - youll understand each others situation/standpoint there and then, instead of letting it simmer away not knowing.
You either have to accept it, park where you can and get on with your life or start playing parking wars and silly buggers and base your day around keeping "your parking space" and stressing when he is parked in it, id say lifes too short and let it go.

WHy don't you just talk to him? Tell him you noticed that he's always parked in front of yours and you wondered if there was no space in front of his when he got home or if there was some other issue. Don't people speak to their neighbors anymore?

Bagsundermyeyestoday · 29/04/2023 03:22

Maybe he's been blocked before so that's why. Annoying, but tough luck it's a public road if you want a park outside your house, buy a house that has its own place to park?

I just can't get worked up about having to walk that bit further on a public highway. He's got his reasons. Leave him to it I say. I'd just laugh if someone 'politely' told me I couldn't park anywhere I was entitled to. And yes, I really mean it when I say I'm not bothered. Happens at ours all the time.

Exactly, how much further do you have to walk? 5 metres? Alot of fuss over nothing! You'd look ridiculous if you said anything

gumball37 · 29/04/2023 04:14

Park outside his house, then knock on his door and ask if he'll help you carry your groceries to your house. 😁🤣
