Passport woes

My DH applied for a new passport 2 weeks ago, on the same day as the passport office strike began. He had been dithering about renewing his passport for months!
I’m shocked to see that this morning, he has been notified that his new passport application has been completed and it’s on the way to him!
Now here’s the problem. I was banking on him NOT receiving his passport for months so that I could go away abroad with my sister for a few days instead. Now he’s got it, I’m going to have to go away with him instead!!! To be fair, he has said he’s ok with me going with my sister, but I feel that as a dutiful wife I should really go with him. 😜
AIBU - go away with my DH
AINBU - go away with my sister then my DH

Monitor your letter box 24/7 and ensure there is ‘postage disruption’

You’ll just have to have 2 holidays - one with DH and another with your sister. Nothing else for it!

Just out of interest, how did your DH apply for his passport?

Mine runs out at the end of August and I needed it for a holiday I'm just back from. I need to have a new one for early next year but not sure about waiting till end of strike, or going through the fast track passport service from the post office, or even the normal route now. I don't want my current passport to go missing for months like happened in the last couple of years.

yeah I applied two weeks ago for DS2s passport and it arrived this morning as well! I was in a right panic as I'd been convinced right until the 4th time I checked the expiry date that there was plenty of time left (turns out there was 5 1/2 months and I need 6)

@Brazilagogo I didn't go fast track as there were no appointments available - just did a renewal online on 11th April. Made sure I paid extra for the tracked post though (that they return it with)

OP go away with your sister if you want to go away with your sister. You can go with DH another time.

That's really useful to know @sugarbumfairy - thanks! 🙏

Just to add - I’ve had similar quick turnaround. Applied for renewal for DD’s passport on Easter Monday and it arrived today (ie 16 days later)

Ah great to hear, we are waiting for DH's passport so I am hoping it will be the same.

YABU to not do what you want out of "wife duty". Are you in the 1950s? Your husband is fine with it so go with your sister if that's what you prefer.
