TV show on BBC

Does anyone remember this from about 10 years ago? A TV series, I think on BBC, about an early psychiatrist in the Victorian times who went to live in [countryside place] with his wife and they kept seeing vapour trails in the sky and stuff and a woman walking round the house with an iPad. And then it moved to the present and the woman with the iPad had been suffering postpartum psychosis and sometimes she could see/sense the Victorian world, and sometimes they could see/sense her world (hence the vapour trails). It properly freaked me out!

However, I cannot remember what it was called, searching is bringing up a big fat nothing, and no one else seems to remember it. Did this TV series really happen or am I totally imagining it?!

I think it was The Living and The Dead.

Yesss, that was it! Thank you! I honestly thought I had a false memory because nobody seemed to recall it at all.

I remember it well! It had Colin Morgan in it.

I remember this too. My dh and I talk about it every now and then!

I was doing lots of night feeds with very newborn DS (I was thinking it was DD but actually by the dates, it must have been DS). And I would be watching it at about 3am while feeding this tiny baby; it started to really mess with my mind, to the point where I couldn't finish the series. But I do remember what I saw very clearly and yes, Colin Morgan was the psychiatrist, no?

Oh yes The Living and the Dead. I loved it! Was hopeful for another series as it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger but no luck. And Colin Morgan 😍😍

I loved that programme. That and Atlantis too that also was axed due to it costing too much I think.

Was it cost or did they just not get the viewing figures? Judging by the number of people I know who clearly didn't watch it, I'm wondering if it was the latter...

I'm trying to remember the cliffhanger end - did he find out from the future that he'd murdered his wife?

And wasn't there something to do with a car? The great great great grand-daughter crashed her car and the Victorians found it in the field? And then when she went back for it, it was as though it was 100 years old...?

Very unsure as to why a sleep-deprived woman breastfeeding a newborn would decide to watch a programme called The Living and the Dead on iPlayer in the middle of the night 🤣 It seemed like a great idea at the time. After a while I was convinced that I was going to trip over Victorians holding iPads on the stairs...
