Car overhanging drive - WWYD?

Floofydawg · 24/04/2023 18:10

I have a huge long car overhanging my already very tight drive by about 6 inches. I have to go out very early tomorrow and if it's still there I'm going to struggle to get out. I don't know who's car it is. Do I:

1 leave a passive aggressive note on their windscreen

  1. post on local FB group, including reg, asking for it to be moved
  2. Knock on every door in the street asking who's car it is
  3. All of the above?

Bloody fuming. I have a dropped kerb and people regularly think it's easier and convenient to park there 😡😡😡

All of the above.

Nowvoyager99 · 24/04/2023 18:12

I would start with 3.

SparkleSpangle · 24/04/2023 18:12
  1. They have parked illegally if you can't get out.
SnackSizeRaisin · 24/04/2023 18:15

Do 3 first and if no joy then do 2. 1 isn't going to work in time for the morning

AHobbyaweek · 24/04/2023 18:18

Call non-emergency police if you genuinely can't get out as they are blocking you accessing the highway. They should try and contact the owner.

CaroleSinger · 24/04/2023 18:22

6 inches? Surely that's not an impossible task?

My drive is already very tight to get out of. And why the fuck should I have to edge past them? They are parked illegally.

All of them. And yes, call the non-emergency police number for advice, giving the registration of the vehicle.

Clymene · 24/04/2023 18:24

All of them. And then get an H bar painted on the road. It helps.

Depends on the size and shape of the drive and proximity to any pillars or walls. On my drive it would make things very difficult, on my mother's it would be nearly impossible.

Floofydawg · 24/04/2023 18:28

Yep, I have walls on both sides that I'd rather not scrape my car on.

I'd contact the Non emergency police number. They can find out who's car it is and contact them.

MonumentalLentil · 24/04/2023 18:34

Contact Parking Enforcement at the council, they could issue a fine. And could you get it towed?

People do that to my elderly neighbour, she won't leave the house in case she has an accident because she can't see the traffic with something parked there. She phones and asks me if I know who the car belongs to and then won't go and ask them to move.

Disgustedandfreakedout · 24/04/2023 18:40

It's probably a visitor. It'll be gone by tomorrow. Check again at 8pm.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 24/04/2023 18:42

I would post on Facebook and if that didn't work, knock on doors.

Floofydawg · 24/04/2023 18:52

Well it's all kicked off. I put a note on his windscreen and he came out of his house a bit later just as my husband was in the garden, kicked off with him, shouting and swearing, 'how dare you put a note on my car, I'll park wherever the fuck I like, you don't even live in this street' (we do, but our house backs onto the cul de sac and we have to park up the side where the drive is.

What's wrong with people?

Christ some people are such arseholes

Did he move it?

Soontobe60 · 24/04/2023 19:08

I’m sorry, but YABU. Where’s the diagram!!!

RunningUpThatMill · 24/04/2023 19:09

'You don't even live on this street'. Well no, of course we don't, we just decided to buy a drive and the house belongs to someone else - still my drive though.

Some people are just dickheads.

Yes, he reversed furiously up the cul-de-sac after basically telling my poor husband that he 'doesn't want to start anything with me' - he's now paranoid he's going to get his car keyed. I feel terrible. It was me who put the note on the windscreen and I would have happily confronted the arsehole if I'd been outside.

No diagram. I can't draw.

He sounds pleasant!

ifancyajamdonut · 24/04/2023 20:03

Being an arsehole because he knows he was in the wrong, big mouths usually have a small penis. They have to compensate for their failings.

Floofydawg · 24/04/2023 20:50

Have applied to the council for an H bar to be painted. Am guessing it might take a while!

Paint your own in the meantime
