Tried ringing one of my ds great aunties (fathers side) to see how she was as always got on with her. She came to the fone realised it was me puit the phone down but didnt hang up (dont know if it was intentional of not) and said dont want to speak to her shes causing trouble making us all pick sides. All of which i have never done ive said things from my point of view if people have asked but never forced anyone to choise him or me and ds. As stupid as it sounds its really upset me as i classed her as part of my family still. I text one of her daughters to ask her to tell her mum i was ringing to see how she was and i didnt realise i was causing trouble so from now on i will stay away. Was i unreasonable to do/say this?

Sorry. what ds great auntie said wasnt to me was to whoever else in the room. I really dont know what im surposed to have done! Just fed up of everything being made out to be my fault behind my back when they are fine to my face. Is that better?

Did the daughter text back?

TotalChaos · 15/02/2008 22:23

If your ex's family treats your DS well otherwise, then I would just grin and bear it. I think it's natural, if unfair, for families to favour their flesh and blood over partners iyswim. it is of course rather rude of your great aunt to behave like that.

shelleylou · 15/02/2008 22:32

Mrsruffalo, she did text back saying she didnt know i rang her mum but from what i heard she has told her mum things bout our old flat and ex not wanting kids there but was fine 4 me and ds to be there with nothing but a kettle (thats what im assuming neway.)
TBH none of them really bother with my ds is only that one daughter that has really had any contact with my son since ex and i split up, she drove 60 odd miles to come and see us earlier this week. Its my ds great auntie and ex's auntie but i do agree it was rather rude i would have much rather her tell me she didnt want to speak then think she had hung up and tell her gd to tell me she was out if i rang back. It has all just really pissed me of as ive tried to maintain contact between my ds and ex's family even bought a present for said aunites neice who is due a baby. Think ill take it back after all this as got nowhere else to post it too.

Thanks for your opinions. Just to clarify i didnt mean stopping my ds from seeing them etc, i wouldnt do that unless there was a risk of harm to him. I just mean that if its not going down well me having contact and causing trouble etc is it reasonable for me to keep clear.
