So I'm on micrognon pill where u take tor 4 weeks then have a break for period. So my last day of taking it was Wednesday so do I go back on it next Wednesday or next Thursday?

You take for 3 weeks then have a break.

You start taking again on Thursday (or earlier of you choose to). You can even take them with no break

I want my break as then I know if period doesn't arrive I do a preg test

@bumblebeees The bleed you have after starting your pill free week with microgynon isn't a real period. It's a withdrawal bleed from the sudden drop in the hormones the pill was providing. So there is always a chance you can have a withdrawal bleed even if you are pregnant.

It'd unlikely you'd get pregnant as microgynon is very effective if taken correctly. But just wanted to let you know.

I agree that the bleed you have during your pill free week is not a proper period; it's due to the drop in hormones. Very unlikely to get pregnant while taking the combined pill unless you are sick or have diarrhoea soon after taking it or you forget to take them.

@Hesma what if I can't remember the day I started on? It was 4 weeks ago and with an empty pill packet I can't be certain what day of the week i started on

All I DO know for sure is I took my last one on Wednesday now I'm waiting patiently for my bleed. Someone else told me i go back on wed and others have said Thursday so I dunno

Its definitely Thursday if your last one was Wednesday.

Some pills come with a placebo week. So if you had that brand you'd have taken your placebo Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Then started the proper ones again on Thursday.

If you think you might have taken them incorrectly over the 3 weeks previous to the pill free week then you need to consultant the instructions in the packet. There's different instructions depending on the scenario. Some include skipping the pill free week entirely and running 2 packs back to back.

The foil for microgynon has the days printed on it.

If you took your last pill on Weds you need to now have a 7-day break, so Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues, Weds, and then take your next one on Thurs.

See the leaflet that comes with it if you're not sure.

Or you can start it on any day as long as you don't wait more than 7 days between packs. I have heard of some people only taking a 4 day break and some who run them back to back for 2 or 3 months at a time.

Take Microgynon 30 every day for 21 days
Microgynon 30 comes in strips of 21 pills, each marked with a day of the week.
 Take your pill at the same time every day.
 Start by taking a pill marked with the correct day of the week.
 Follow the direction of the arrows on the strip. Take one pill each day, until you have
finished all 21 pills.
 Swallow each pill whole, with water if necessary. Do not chew the pill.
Then have seven pill-free days
After you have taken all 21 pills in the strip, you have seven days when you take no pills.
So if you

take the last pill of one pack on a Friday, you will take the first pill of your next pack on the

Saturday of the following week.

If you’re on Microgynon you can’t have taken it for 4 weeks. There are 21 pills in each packet.

You’ll start it again Thursday if you finished on a Wednesday.

Unless you’re on Microgynon ED which has 7 dummy pills (I think they’re white ones) which means you don’t have 7 days with no pills. You finish the dummy pills then start the new packet straight after.

Are you taking the break for a reason?

I take my packs back to back because allowing the breakthrough bleed is pointless and unnecessary. Here to help!

Yea I want my bleed cos if u don't bleed u might be preg so I want my bleed

It doesn't hurt to have a 6 day break instead of a 7 day break if you're not sure what day you stopped taking them.

If the instructions don't say to take a break, and your doctor didn't say you can take a break, do check with the GP whether this is ok because some brands you do need to take it continuously or you won't be protected.
