Florida doctors and LGBT patients

I've just seen on the news that doctors in florida will be allowed to refuse treatment to LGBT patients if it goes against their conscience. For example, anti HIV medications.

Obviously there is a vocal political sector that has chosen to marginalise all women recently, and as we womej have to just suck that up, that's an argument for another thread, but this? Really? So a patient goes to their doctor and the doctor says based on their sexuality they won't treat them?

Surely the hippocratic oath would trump this? I'm Obviously wrong if it's got this far politically.

I suggest that you read the bill rather than some bs "news" the bill bans so called gender affirming care for children ie no more mastectomies for 13 and 14 year old girls (or any under 18), no puberty blockers or cross sex hormones. It has nothing to do with hiv treatment ffs stop scaremongering

RedEyeBaby · 20/04/2023 19:45

I'm not trying to scaremonger. They literally just said that exact example on the news.

So your "ffs" should be addressed to the media, because if it's an outright lie, it's spreading propaganda to the masses who watch.

Perhaps you should be more discerning about your choice of media outlet?

Hoardasurass · 20/04/2023 19:53

Please tell us which news outlet is spreading this. I'll guess pink news myself

So you’re now mad that you’ve perpetuated the same misinformation that the media has and was called out on it?

Skankhunt84 · 20/04/2023 20:02

I think you've misunderstood the news story.

TooBored1 · 20/04/2023 20:14

I think is perhaps what the news reports have picked up on

This is the news outlet I got it from. I'm afraid it's in French, but the parts that I quoted were directly from a brief interview with an American during the report. The piece is towards the end of the programme, after the report about bears in Italy.

Before you all throw bricks at me, this is the mainstream channel 2 news, broadcast nationally in France. This is the impression being given to people, at least in France. I believed it at face value because of just how UNbelieveable the abortion laws were.

If it's the case that the bill is quite different, then thank you, I'll try to find it.

I realised that in America doctors can choose who to treat when I was looking for the morning after pill as a student to be told 'it doesn't exist' by a healthcare provider!
