Tipping for an online purchase!

Since when has tipping for an online purchase become ‘a thing’? I read about it yesterday morning in the newspaper and thought it’s a one off. However, later that day I was buying a birthday gift for a DF - and it just so happens at the point of checking out I was asked if I wanted to tip? 5%,10% or even 20%! Obviously, I clicked the box that said ‘no tip’. It wasn’t clear who would actually get the tip.

Am I being unreasonable? Would you have tipped?

I've never heard of this as a thing and certainly won't be doing it.

Absolutely not - bought a horsey item earlier today and saw this at the checkout. Baffling!

It suggests dodgy/scam website to me and I’ve decided not to proceed with the order previously where it has come up!

What kind of business was it? I assume it's not a high street chain. I would not pay a tip.

Hi,
it is a legit business, I called them out on FB and this is their response. I did place the order as I thought it was a lovely original gift and couldn’t find it available elsewhere.

I had this before, I cant remember which company it was for, but I was outraged too

But then I dont like tipping for other things either - I think there should be an actual living wage, and where someone works full time hours there should be no need for benefits (ie should be paid enough)

i would reply and say "you havent said where the tip goes, please clarify"
