I don't believe we've been to the moon and SpaceXs failure further convinces me.

I know I've posted this before and the majority of you think I'm batty, but I don't think we've landed on the moon.

3 billion USD, a giant leap in technological advances and yet it can't even launch.

On the basis of common sense. If it was possible to land on the moon almost 60 years ago, more landings would have happened since by other countries.. None have.

Which countries would want to land on the moon?

For what purpose?

You need to add geopolitics to things you don’t understand.

When the Rwanda scheme turns to shit, I suspect the UK government might be looking to house asylum claimants there.

Maybe space doesn't exist? Or the moon or sun?

Is earth really here? Or birds or trees?

Maybe humans are a mirage?

How about Concorde then ?

That was really the British/French moon landing.

Built a 2x the speed of sound plane, ran it at a huge loss for a few years, then ditched it.

No-one now has a 2x supersonic passenger jet. But that doesn't mean it didn't or can't happen.

Daftasabroom · 21/04/2023 14:17

@Alondra sadly it's seems rather common that people believe some of the non-sense being posted here but that doesn't make it common sense.

You’ve never actually seen your own face. Only a reflection or a photo. 🤣

Neededanewuserhandle · 21/04/2023 14:50

We didn't have the technology in 1969 to make my face - therefore I don't exist.😂

The Mitchell and Webb sketch posted above is brilliant and so 😁 😂 😀

I remember at the time of the space race there were some school boys in the UK who had a good astronomy department who frequently beat NASA to spotting new Russian spaceships. I have no doubt there were a lot of successful launches and missions by the Russians and Americans, to and around the moon. It is then not much of a step to believe they landed on the moon (not to mention the film and photos). It was not a sudden one off mission there was a big lead up to it. Computers were pretty basic, but so was the required science and navigation, and you can do anything by hand that a computer does it just takes much much longer.

Sturnip · 21/04/2023 17:02

The US spent about $30 billion on the space race (which is a couple of hundred billion in today’s money).

It did so in the context of the Cold War and for the bragging rights associated with getting there first (ahead of the Russians).

It cost an astronomical (lol) sum of money and accordingly, even against the backdrop of the Cold War, never really enjoyed huge public support in the US (although it was backed by a small majority of Americans for some time).

Once the first landings occurred, public support for further trips dropped off fairly quickly (which is understandable, the mission having been accomplished).

So it should, really, be quite obvious why other countries haven’t subsequently made similar trips. The cost is prohibitive and there’s little political will.

The UK, for example, is one of the richest countries in the world (albeit not US rich)….but can you imagine if the Tories or Labour had, over the past few decades, ran on a manifesto that included spending billions on establishing a space program, so that some British people could also go to the moon for no particular gain? Do you think that would have been a popular vote winner? Would you have supported it?

Runningonempty01 · 20/04/2023 17:41

So for over 50 years no one has leaked that it was faked? The astronauts were bribed or threatened to lie for the rest of their lives , their stories remained consistent at all times? I think it would be harder to fake the moon landing and maintain the fiction than to actually go to the moon.

This!!

BMW6 · 21/04/2023 18:47

Yes, as the Mitchell and Webb sketch so amusingly pointed out, you HAVE to build the rocket and it HAS to successfully lift off and leave Earths atmosphere - that's just about all the expense so you might as well crack on and actually do the whole thing as it would be cheaper than faking a moon landing 😂

I genuinely have 0 respect for anyone who still believes we went to the moon 😂….these ppl do not have a single critical thought in their pea size brains 🤦🏼‍♀️

bringitonnow · 21/04/2023 18:52

There is no way that if it was not true that it could have been kept a secret for so long as so many people would have to keep their traps shut plus their wives and kids who I am sure they wouldnt have been able to keep it from. You tell one person in your office a secret and eventually it will come out. Imagine thousands of people being able to keep a secret.

My flight to Amsterdam was cancelled. I don't believe any one has ever been to Amsterdam.

TruthsAndALie · 21/04/2023 19:04

Why is anyone trying to go there (again or for the first time)? Don’t get the point, what’s the benefit?

I don’t think SpaceX et al should be allowed; waste of natural resource and HUGE pollution issue that is undoing some of the regeneration of the ozone layer.

Ground it I say.

Abouttimemum · 21/04/2023 19:56

I thought the Decepticons were on the moon though - I’d be avoiding Megatron at all costs tbh

I am not in agreement with OP but to all of you using the ISS as some sort of justification for space travel, the ISS is ONLY 250 miles above the earth!!! Hardly a reason to say yes we’ve been to the moon which is 238,000 miles away. Completely different.

Why does the extra distance mean an insurmountable problem? What's the technical block that would make reaching the moon impossible?
