Could there be a potential leak?
I'd get onto the phone to your water company first thing tomorrow morning. Prices have risen but your usage shouldn't of fluctuated so much.

Not sure I'm confident to be able to find any leaks. Often had the odd dripping taps or shower. But nothing major..

If your water consumption has gone up by that much you must have a leak. Have you water coming out of any overflow pipes outside your house - that could indicate you've a toilet cistern overflowing for instance (your responsibility to fix - sometimes all you need to do is take the top off the cistern and adjust the ballcock arm a bit).
Can you turn off your main stopcock indoors and see if your water meter is still ticking around? If your meter is in the road that would indicate an underground leak, whick AFAIK is the water company's job to sort out - and you should get a refund.

Are any of your loos broken so that water constantly flows through them, just a little bit? This happened to one of ours in a not too frequently used room and cost a fortune until we realised.
