Would you give up work

HagoftheNorth · 18/04/2023 19:10

If your DH earned millions, and he gave you half so it was in your name & you were independently financially secure, would you give up work

YABU you would still want to have your own work & earn your own money
YANBU of course you’d give up work ( and what would you do instead?)

I like to think I wouldn’t because I really do love my job but I probably would because I also like spas, shopping, etc.

bringincrazyback · 18/04/2023 19:15

I would give up salaried work, but not stop actually working - I write in my spare time and I've always dreamt of taking it full-time.

GoodVibesHere · 18/04/2023 19:15

Yes of course I would

MissingMoominMamma · 18/04/2023 19:16

I would. I’d do some volunteering though.

Heroicallyfound · 18/04/2023 19:17

I would look for something I really loved - maybe volunteer or train in a new profession, but I don’t think I could do nothing. Working 3 days a week max would be ideal!

Amboseli · 18/04/2023 19:18

I'd go part time.

shelbaba · 18/04/2023 19:20

Absolutely! I wouldn't even think about it, if only lol.

Wakeywake · 18/04/2023 19:20

I would give up my current job, stressful but really well paid, and take up something more interesting and less stressful. Maybe 4 days a week.

CluelessHamster · 18/04/2023 19:21

Yes!

He wouldn't even have to give me half his millions. 10 grand a month would do me nicely but obviously if he wanted to hand over more...

I'm sure I could fill my time perfectly well, although in reality, I'd spend a lot of it faffing/slobbing around!

Would be lovely 😅

lemonyellows · 18/04/2023 19:22

Yes of course. Then I would find my vocation, hobby or charity work. Works is your oyster when not a slave to the pound.

babynoname22 · 18/04/2023 19:23

I would give up my current job of the money was secured away.

The bake cakes for a living

timetorefresh · 18/04/2023 19:31

I think I'd still want to do something, think I'd give up teaching though. Maybe I'd tutor. I do like the nice bits of teaching (the actual teaching) but I'd happily drop all the stressful crap

SilentHedges · 18/04/2023 19:32

While it's admirable to love your job, or enjoy coming to work, in this context you need to ask yourself "Is doing xyz every day, the BEST thing I can do with my life?" Versus, for example, spending valuable time with loved ones, experiencing the world or volunteering and being altruistic. I say this to people at work who are loaded and are too scared to cut the cord and retire.

Personally I'd be off like a shot!

Lemonademoney · 18/04/2023 19:33

I would totally give up work! How amazing to be able to choose how to spend my time and energy!

2chocolateoranges · 18/04/2023 19:34

I love my job but would give it up, travel the world, eat out, meet new people and enjoy life while we can and live beside the sea!

Chlobo89 · 18/04/2023 19:34

I would give up my current job and become a dog walker or dog groomer.

ChocChipHandbag · 18/04/2023 19:35

Would depend if my DH had also given up work, so we could do stuff together.

Otherwise I'd keep working because I enjoy my job/profession, but I'd make bolder decisions and take less shit from colleagues because I would not worry about risking my job. Might go freelance or set up a consultancy.

maddening · 18/04/2023 19:36

If I was made independently wealthy then yes and I would have my own art studio.

Thighdentitycrisis · 18/04/2023 19:37

Yes and I would like to be a foster carer

BCBird · 18/04/2023 19:37

Better find this other half first

Yes, this...might set myself 1 health goal and 1 creative goal throughout the year too....eg Climb Snowden, take up pottery

nokidshere · 18/04/2023 19:40

I wouldn't even need to think about it. Having time to do nothing at all would be bliss

carriedout · 18/04/2023 19:40

Yes, for sure. I can think of millions of productive and useful things to do with my time.

Ohhh yes NT… I’d probably get involved in the textile restoration office at my nearest stately home!

MintJulia · 18/04/2023 19:46

I'm almost 60, I've already had a cancer scare, I have sole care of a teen. I'd give up work in a heart beat 😊

I'd enjoy my house and my garden, read books, run every day, snooze in the sun (when we have any ), travel.

I'm slightly lacking a husband though, so not likely to happen
