To be sixk of Rishi Sunak and his money making

Viviennemary · 17/04/2023 23:48

Haven't Sunak and his wife got enough money without trying to rake in even more more by his wife investing in some child education scheme which benefits from the recent budget. He is now to be investigated for not declaring it what greed. Makes me sick. What is the matter with these people and obsession with wanting even more money to add to the billions they have already got,

They have a combined net worth of approximately £720 million. Why is he interested in doing a job that pays a paltry (by comparison) £165,000 a year? I'm going to guess that access to contracts and contacts is why.

I genuinely have felt this about every PM from Blair onwards and including Nick Clegg (with the possible exception of May, who, for reasons I can’t quite explain, I feel might have some integrity even if I disagree with her politics). All of them were more interested in what came after.

mainsfed · 18/04/2023 08:28

Incidentally, what happened with the Michelle Mone saga? Did she get away with it? News has been quiet for a few months?

Brown surely has integrity, whatever his flaws.

Even though you might argue that having been at the centre of world events as Chancellor for so long he probably saw being Prime Minister of the UK as a stepping stone to heading up the IMF or whatever, he was obviously motivated by the work, not the after dinner speaking fees at the end of it.

I'm no lover of either Blair, but TB left the country in far better shape than when he became PM. But this is just more bullshit whataboutery designed to try and muddy the waters. If the electorate thinks all politicians are awful then the tories get less heat and more chance to stay in power. Its blindingly obvious if you open your eyes and mind.

Spot on. It’s so predictable - criticise Tory corruption and sure as night follows day the first response is “What about Corbyn/Starmer/Blair?” Or “At least they know what a woman is”.

Keepthetowel · 18/04/2023 08:38

I think Rishi will have so many different investments that it will be difficult to make any policy without affecting them one way or another.

But surely he should at least declare it.

Tulipsemerging · 18/04/2023 08:45

Many billionaires and millionaires seem to want more and more money. They also seemed oblivious to the struggle others have in society. They are often very privileged and have no understanding at all of the difficulties others face.

Tone deaf, greedy, not fit to run the country.

Tulipsemerging · 18/04/2023 08:47

Blueberry111 · 18/04/2023 07:35

I'm sure it's the same with all politicians across the world...this one just happens to be our prime minister.

Oh dear.

Tulipsemerging · 18/04/2023 08:49

IamAlso4eels · 18/04/2023 07:52

Kier Starmer isn't PM and "but Starmer..." is a weak comeback to the serious amounts of sleaze going on in within the Conservative party.

Indeed. The level of 'whataboutery' that exists whenever commenting on the Tory party and sleaze or corruption generally.

CurlewKate · 18/04/2023 08:56

Rather Rishi than Signundur Gunnaugsson.

Hbh17 · 18/04/2023 08:59

People are allowed to make money, and should be encouraged to invest and generate business. I think it's admirable.

Many billionaires and millionaires seem to want more and more money.

I dunno. Warren Buffet and Bill Gates (for example) seem to be giving a lot away. And have encouraged others to do the same

https://fortune.com/2022/06/28/warren-buffett-wealth-estate-family-charity/

for example.

This is probably why Rishi had to fill the papers with a backfiring non story about "maths". So as to crowd out stories like this that might prompt people to ask Rishi: "How about you, matey ?". After all we can only talk about Harry and Meghan for so long.

Warren Buffett has promised to give away 99% of his wealth when he dies. A family charity that quietly focuses on reproductive rights could get a huge windfall

The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, a quiet but major funder of abortion rights, is making plans to receive up to $100 billion from Warren Buffett's estate.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 18/04/2023 09:18

It’s unbelievable really. The UK Oct is currently so corrupt. It’s like one of the countries the Uk used to sneer at - but with no justification as it turns out!

The UK media have an awful lot to answer for.

SerendipityJane · 18/04/2023 10:42

The UK media have an awful lot to answer for.

It's all a bit circular, sadly. A society that has been indoctrinated that maths and learning are somehow negative qualities (we all pay lip service, but look how we actually treat people who bother to learn) will hardly be the most discerning when it comes to news. And thus won't have the intrinsic skills needed to educate itself.

Meanwhile there is a whole strata that simply slimes through using money, power and privilege. On good days they even get the poorest and most vulnerable to give up their crusts and water to help push them further up.

TodayInahurry · 18/04/2023 07:45

I think he is a good, efficient PM, he has made his money, so has his wife’s family. Rather him than the awful Starmer who will not say what a woman is, who is also pretty wealthy

Utterly delusional post.

Good and efficient when he lost £11b of taxpayers money eh.

Viviennemary · 18/04/2023 10:58

CalistoNoSolo · 18/04/2023 07:41

I disagree. This is lazy thinking and only benefits the right wing agenda.

Sunak and his awful wife seem to exist only to further themselves and increase their already vast fortune. I find them both utterly despicable. They have no morals and couldn't give a shit about the UK or its population. I hope some decent journos are digging deep into their financial affairs as there will be more to come out. People like this never bother with the rules.

I agree. This is how I felt when I heard about it last night. It's all self self self and not only keep their obscenely vast fortune but adding to it by whatever means they can. Utterly despicable.

Everything is relative. It could have been £22bn.

Anyway, aren't you supposed to say something about Kier Starmers newsagents bill ? And parrot some guff about knowing what a woman is.

I've reported your post for not toeing the line 😀

ilovesooty · 18/04/2023 11:00

@Blossomtoes is right.

It's tiresome.

I thought the amount paid to childcare providers by the government was lower than the hourly rate paid by parents. So childcare providers will be worse off. Or have I got confused.

Yes it's ridiculous how everyone laps up media stories. She is invested in Koru kids.

It will barely benefit from the funding that is going to cripple most nurseries and childminders!

It's so pathetic and becoming increasingly weak as a comeback when we have such a poorly performing economy, public services that are down the toilet and a crumbling infrastructure. And yet multi millionaires that are <ahem> very efficient with their tax affairs are still trying to enrich themselves through their public roles.

They should hang their heads in shame.

beguilingeyes · 18/04/2023 11:10

sst1234 · 18/04/2023 07:38

What is your issue? That his wife invested? Should she not, just because you think she is rich? That’s a pathetic argument.

If he’s done something corrupt, that’s another story.

It's not about his wife investing....it's about the fact that the childcare measures announced in the budget will benefit her company. And if it's perfectly legal/acceptable to Parliament, he still didn't declare it.
Infosys is also still in Russia, I believe.
There's about a 50 page thread elsewhere here about something that Sunak said. After this,.and his family's dodgy tax affairs, why would we believe a word he says.
Green card/non Dom issues also.

Nightlystroll · 18/04/2023 11:11

I'm sick of Rishi and his money making.

What's wrong with making money?
