DS listening to Wagner

DS (17) listens to Wagner. He was an unusual child, which adds to my concern. AIBU, or should I speak to him about it?

I'd suggest a bit of Mahler

SusiePevensie · 17/04/2023 21:08

Pretty sure you can like Wagner without being a fascist.

JMSA · 17/04/2023 21:10

You mean the Wagner from X Factor, right?!

Sturnip · 17/04/2023 21:11

The 2010 X-factor contestant?

Divorcedalongtime · 17/04/2023 21:11

My DS went through a classical phase at 14-15 and then a jazz phase a bit later… don’t think it’s a concern in itself.

Needmorelego · 17/04/2023 21:14

Mine was listening to The Wiggles earlier.
She's almost 15.
Now that's weird 🤣

(Mostly here for the deletion message......)

I love Wagner, when I was in the first year of university I managed to get tickets to see die Meistersinger at Covent Garden.

KilljoysMakeSomeNoise · 17/04/2023 21:17

It could be worse. One of mine listened to Coldplay at that age. Another was into Nickelback. Obviously I disowned them and banished them from my house and have gone NC. It's the only way they'll learn.

AutumnCrow · 17/04/2023 21:18

I quite liked Lead Belly at that age.

If this was in 2012, my waters broke at the general rehearsal…

CherryCokeFanatic · 17/04/2023 21:19

Would this qualify for the govs prevent strategy? I’d report him because potentially one day he will vanish off to Ukraine to fight for them

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 17/04/2023 21:20

I listened to Wagner when I was that age. I still do. I'm not a fascist 🤣.

LubaLuca · 17/04/2023 21:21

I'd love to hear more about what made him an unusual child...

What if he decides to ride out with the Valkyries?

MichelleScarn · 17/04/2023 21:26

Can't figure out if this is
-bollocks
-stealth bollocks
-self depreciation/hating of middle class status and keen to deflect and show how 'down with kids' op is actually in an Edwina/Saffy AbFab way.

malapast · 17/04/2023 21:27

If he starts listening to Hitler speeches or thinks Prigozhin is good then it's time to intervene.

MichelleScarn · 17/04/2023 21:27

Stealth boast not stealth bollocks!

LolaSmiles · 17/04/2023 21:27

What's the apparent problem here?

malapast · 17/04/2023 21:28

Late, middle or early Wagner ?

PeonyFairy · 17/04/2023 21:29

My DS was listening to Simon and Garfunkel at that age so it could be much worse.

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 17/04/2023 21:29

Good for him. A ticket to the Bayreuth festival would be the perfect 18th birthday gift.

Giggorata · 17/04/2023 21:30

And?

ApolloandDaphne · 17/04/2023 21:30

The questions you need to ask him:

Would he die for Beethoven?
Does he love the way Puccini lays down a tune?
Is Verdi always creeping from his room?

WandaWonder · 17/04/2023 21:33

My teenager makes pizza at the same time as singing and aria and composing a symphony alongside whilst putting socks in a washing up basket with a side of cleaning the bathroom

Stealth boast not stealth bollocks!

To be fair, it probably IS bollocks.Grin
