Chest pain for a few weeks now getting numbness in my arm and hand

Aibu for not getting this checked out, I suspect yes. Have kind of been burying my head in the sand.

It started with right sided chest pain like a pulled muscle, radiated to my back and shoulder, then it switched to left sided just chest pain. It comes and goes but is far worse when I have had an active day or been lifting (very heavy) 1yo.
Today Ive walked miles and picked 1yo up all day and my chest is very achey but my arm is hurting too and my hand feels slightly numb. Hurts slightly at the end of a forcible exhale.

DH says call doctors tomorrow. What do you think?
Im 36 if that makes any difference.

Of course YABU, go and get checked

Whatkindofuckeryisthis · 17/04/2023 20:25

Obviously call the dr. Chest pain worse on exertion is always a worry. I am a cardiology assistant. However, sounds like a strained or pulled muscle or pinched nerve but you need to make sure!

tailinthejam · 17/04/2023 20:26

Yes, you need to see a doctor asap to rule out anything sinister. Those symptoms could be heart-related. Chances are it is a pulled muscle or you've put your back or neck out, but you need to be seen quickly, just to be on the safe side.

lenaperkins · 17/04/2023 20:28

Please check. There is a (rare) possibility it could be SCAD.

dontgobaconmyheart · 17/04/2023 20:47

Absolutely it should be checked, but that doesn't mean it's anything serious. I don't think age really has any bearing as it would warrant a chat with the GP regardless.

Reduce the lifting and the longevity of the lifting as much as you can and reduce activity - if it is a muscle or nerve injury then it won't get any better all the while that continues.

Outandup · 17/04/2023 21:28

It could be Costochrondritis. I have this and have similar symptoms which are always on the left side.

Sometimes it twinges and aches upon movement and at its worst breathing was agonising, any movement excruciating. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever had after childbirth. I’ve read that a sizeable proportion of people who present to A&E thinking they have heart problems actually have this condition, however it’s important that you get checked out by the GP immediately.

snowbellsxox · 17/04/2023 21:53

I would get checked by gp asap.
Do you suffer with any anxiety/stress?
I'm 30 had chest pain and was told it was this, just thinking if the arm is unrelated and is due to the lifting.
Mine is also worse when I'm more active:
No other symptoms

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 17/04/2023 22:12

Trying to be gentle here, but DP had similar symptoms over a few weeks - and it ended up being a minor heart attack because he didn't link the symptoms, or go to the GP. Chest pain should always be checked out by medics - it might just be a chest infection, or a pulled muscle, but you do need to get an appt, because stress won't help you to breathe.

jannier · 17/04/2023 22:26

Pain on exertion definitely needs checking my friend had this for 4 months before we finally persuaded him to see a GP he had 2 stents fitted two days later.

Fandabedodgy · 17/04/2023 22:27

You need to seek medical attention as soon as you can

Absolutely! I’m so glad you mentioned this. I had this OP and started out just like you. I ended up having a SCAD heart attack and going into cardiac arrest and being resuscitated (hence the reason I’m still here, writing this 🤪. Joking aside, I died and got a second chance. I’m here to tell you to go to A&E).

As for SCADs: They tend to affect women, and especially women in hormonal flux (birth/breastfeeding/perimenopause). Prime ages are 30s to 40s.

Please get checked out at A&E. Not GP. Straight to A&E. You’ll need access to diagnostic equipment that the GP won’t have.

DH had this last year, he thought he was having a slow heart attack! He went to the hospital for scans and turns out it was nerve pain from a pulled back muscle.

Have you hurt your back in the past few months?

OP also had this last year as it was posted April 2023.

The chest pain started a few months after he pulled his back muscle. The chest pain lasted a month or two before he thought it was getting worse then went to A&E as he thought it was a heart attack. They did scans, couldn't see anything wrong, asked a few questions one of which included had he pulled a back muscle then they came to the conclusion it was that.

how long did the pain last after that after the hodpia visit

ScrambledEggForBrains · 21/09/2024 16:38

GET CHECKED ASAP. I've had similar feelings but also pins and needles on left cheek area and heart burn in my windpipe. I was sent to A&E for a blood test and an ECG. I was having a heart attack!!
Drs would rather you got checked and nothing was wrong, than not checked and you died

Mumsnet doesn't really work like that, you can't easily find posts by other users on a free account. If you're worried about yours or a family's symptoms either phone 111 for advice or get to A&E @Lina15

ScrambledEggForBrains · 21/09/2024 16:39

It also got worse when I laid down

A few months after however as previous posters advise, please go get it checked out. It could be serious and the hospital will rule it out if it's not.

Dolliesdisasterousdayout · 21/09/2024 16:41

Why have you had your head in the sand?

You need to be seen as soon as possible.

ForPearlViper · 21/09/2024 16:42

I was going to suggest a possible back problem too. However, only AFTER getting checked out properly for cardiac issues should you consider this. If and when hopefully this is ruled out then think about seeing an osteopath or chiropracter. I get an issue with my upper back. When I can kind of feel the nerve going all the way down my arm and my thumb getting a bit numb I go to the osteopath and get sorted out. But to reiterate, you would only do this AFTER getting checked out not instead of.
