not unreasonable at all. i had the same with the emergency dentist. i called at 10, they called back at 11-45 to tell me they shut at 12.15, so i couldn't get there in time.

It may have been really busy - one night I had the worst pain in my head, I was screaming in agony and I didn't get a call back for hours and hours, but apart from that it's usually within about an hour. THey should have prioritised (sp?) you though with a young child, even if it was "just" a cough, it could have been more serious.

understandably you were worried about your dd its horrible when they cant stop coughing but the receptionist can only go on the information you have given her so YAB a bit Unreasonable, she probably thought (rightly or wrongly) from the information you had given her that it wasnt that serious and I am guessing the doctor was very busy because otherwise I am certain you would have got a call back much sooner.

I hope your dd is better today there are some nasty bugs going round at the moment
