To ask school why DS was told there are 72 genders?

DS - 13 - came home from school & said he had a ‘weird’ Philosophy & Ethics lesson led by a new-ish ( non-binary/trans) teacher where they discussed sexuality and gender and 72 genders were mentioned. They covered some of the ‘main’ ones like pansexual, bisexual, trans etc

I told DS that there’s not 72 bloody genders. But am curious as to what materials were used, where they came from and whether or not this was a genuine discussion as DS said it was stated as fact. So for example
When they discuss Judaism or other religions the teachers don’t state ‘god exists’ they talk about belief systems and how they are similar, how they’re different etc

it sounded like this lesson was more - this is fact.

or so I just leave it, knowing that DS is sensible, and knows that gay, trans, bi etc people exist in the world and that’s fine ask the school what the lesson was exactly?

I’m gay, BTW, so this isn’t some anti LGBTQ thing

Gender is a social construct. So I guess you can have any type of gender you want.

He/she should just get on with teaching their subject. The pupils do not need to know anything at all about their personal life, and it is deeply unprofessional if they have brought this up with their class.

I just tried to read the definitions of the 72 genders - I only got to about 14 and if any child/teen with a slight feeling of 'who am I' reads that and tries to fit one of them it's gonna cause serious mental health issues and anxiety right there. They haven't, it was in a lesson around sexuality and gender. The teacher didn't talk about themselves other than the request to be called Ash rather than sir or miss or Mr whatvewr or Ms Whatever.
But I suppose as some who looks like they're transitioning from male to female or at least are non-binary and dress as such it's obvious to the pupils.
Just like my lovely PE teacher mate looks like the butch lesbian she is - she doesn't have to tell her football team anything, they're probably already pretty clued into the fact she's married to a woman not a guy

It's a good school. I've emailed, partly because I'm getting a 13 year olds interpretation. Though I have speficially questioned telling a bunch of year 8s they have 'cis-privilege.'
