To ask school why DS was told there are 72 genders?

DS - 13 - came home from school & said he had a ‘weird’ Philosophy & Ethics lesson led by a new-ish ( non-binary/trans) teacher where they discussed sexuality and gender and 72 genders were mentioned. They covered some of the ‘main’ ones like pansexual, bisexual, trans etc

I told DS that there’s not 72 bloody genders. But am curious as to what materials were used, where they came from and whether or not this was a genuine discussion as DS said it was stated as fact. So for example
When they discuss Judaism or other religions the teachers don’t state ‘god exists’ they talk about belief systems and how they are similar, how they’re different etc

it sounded like this lesson was more - this is fact.

or so I just leave it, knowing that DS is sensible, and knows that gay, trans, bi etc people exist in the world and that’s fine ask the school what the lesson was exactly?

I’m gay, BTW, so this isn’t some anti LGBTQ thing

It's all bullshit.
Genderism is a religious , mind over matter belief.

You have a sex and a personality.
There are no innate gender feelz.

No such thing as 'non binary' and the fact people want it made law that we have to pretend it's actually a thing is also batshit. Androgyny is not new.

No teacher should be pushing their own religious or political ideologies on easliy led children who are not allowed to question the dogma. It's blatant Indoctrination.

Privileged people quite literally making up their pretend oppression.

Actively encouraging children to dissociate from their bodies is child abuse.

yeh we get it - it’s just an anti “T” (and possibly the “Q”) thing 🙄

loislovesstewie · 17/04/2023 19:08

While we're on the subject, can someone explain 'queer' to me? I mean the modern meaning.

Are people not allowed to ask questions without being anti t or q?

Just to be clear - you are claiming that it is transphobic to believe that 'there are 72 genders' is not true?

Wow, that's extremely exclusionary.

Riapia · 17/04/2023 19:10

There are 72 genders.

Name them.
Mars bar for the first correct answer. I am the judge and my decision is final.

xit/xits/xits/xitself?

Pronouns for Clearasil?

Minierme · 17/04/2023 19:11

From my perspective the good thing about being told there are 72 genders (or whatever large number) is that it makes it very obvious that we are just talking about personality types. I have no issue with a GEN Z version of Myers Briggs but we don’t need to treat it as immutable or of legal significance in the way that sex is.

Carouselfish · 17/04/2023 19:14

@FOJN That list is AMAZING! There's a baclava based one! I wonder if there's a digestives one? Or a muppet one? (Two of my favourite things and now I know how to answer if work imposes this nonsense on emails!)
Re. School. I would question that it wasn't presented in an open-minded and up for discussion way, as other belief systems are.

This would have been better

Ah, the Battenberg gender, surely. Lol

It's very difficult to take this all... Seriously.

I am hopeful that in a few(?) years (hopefully much sooner) we will look back on this and wonder how this madness became so... Mad. And never repeat such insanity.

What is the Q thing please? I know it stands for Queer but can you explain what that means?

JarByTheDoor · 17/04/2023 19:17

There are 8,028,119,100 genders and counting.

HermioneKipper · 17/04/2023 17:00

Utter claptrap.

why are they teaching this at school.

I wouldn’t be happy and would want answers from the school

This, and if they have time to entertain this bollocks they can't complain about workloads! Seriously, school leadership don't do the teachers any favours do they.
If I were a parent, I would be expecting exceptional standards from the school if they have the time for this.

HuggingtheHRT · 17/04/2023 19:19

Given the teacher, Ash, told them that anyone who identifies with the gender that matches their biology makes them ‘ privileged’ I feel there’s a bit of an agenda.

Funny, I didn't feel remotely privileged last time I was sexually harassed by some drunk twat on a train, or the time I was groped in a public swimming pool, or when I learnt that a junior male colleague was earning more than me. Funny that, isn't it?

YouJustDoYou · 17/04/2023 19:21

We've been pre=prepping the kids for this. We've said they might be told things at their next big school that simply aren't true - ie 72 genders shit. No, you can't magically be a wolf, or a fairy, or a wolf-fairy, or a male non-binary trans wolf fairy. You are born male, or female, with medical factors and saftey factors that are directly linked to your sex, and that there are people (adults) who like to dress up as the opposite sex, and pretend they are the opposite sex, or a different creature altogether, but that it doesn't change what they were born as, and that this is extremely medically important (ie prostate cancer), and important for safety factors (not being raped), as well as same-sex attraction factors (lesbians are attracted to adult human females. Not Transwomen, who are males). That it is like a religious belief - it is not proven fact, just someone's word against everyone elses.

Itwasnaeme · 17/04/2023 19:22

I sat in a class once while a teacher taught this to a group of teenagers. The amount of eye rolling and slack jaws were noticeable - those students weren't buying it, and god knows what they thought of a teacher telling them this was fact.

determinedtomakethiswork · 17/04/2023 19:22

QueenSmartypants · 17/04/2023 16:16

I don't have a problem with there being 72 genders I just wonder how anyone can remember them all

I always think there will be someone in a 73rd gender who is pissed off that theirs isn't included.

But the lesson isn't to teach kids the eleventh billion genders that the teacher couldn't even recall if they tried, is it? The lesson is to teach kids to swallow this hokum without complaint and call it tolerance.

justteanbiscuits · 17/04/2023 19:27

It was a philosophy and ethics class. Debate and discussion of things like this is the point isn't?

Trust me, there won't have been any debate allowed.

Carouselfish · 17/04/2023 19:30

Also, it sounds like stuff made up by 13 year old girls. Those multiple choice quizzes you filled out in teen magazines, added up your score and got the satisfaction of defining yourself as some kind of something.
