Right just a little rant really. I have two folk on my Facebook who in the past year have went to Turkey for a gastric band or whatever the operation is.
Well months down the line, yes both have lost a lot of weight. Look great. But I’m sick of reading the amount of messages along with their selfies, well done! You have worked hard! How do you do it! Can I have some of your motivation!! Are some off the comments. Wtf!! You went to turkey to get it done! You never lost weight through diet and fitness. You didn’t work hard!! One is actually blending McDonald’s so she can eat in that way. When she posts it, folk actually laugh. No that’s not funny! Rant over

unfriend or unfollow them

Wisheverydaywasasaturday · 15/04/2023 16:15

Who cares. You do you. They will know they are lying to themselves. Would you want to eat a blended mcds? Cos I sure as heck wouldn't, bleugh 😳

Easterfunbun · 15/04/2023 16:15

They’ll gain though. My friend did something similar and then sucked on chocolate buttons all day.

YABU - if you don't want to read what they post then I follow/block them but you have a very judgemental view of WLS which is why so many people have issues accepting WLS isn't the "easy way out".

s someone who has had a gastric bypass (on the NHS in the UK) you have no idea how hard some people have worked to try and lose weight before resorting to WLS. Yes some people see it as an easy fix but it's actually a lot of work - the surgery itself is a tool and you have to have motivation to keep the weight off as well as to change your entire lifestyle.

Before I was given surgery I had to prove I was psychologically ready as well as physically ready and even now, a year later I struggle with how much my life has changed, how much of my issue was psychological and how hard I am still on myself - I have had weight issues since my teens and spent nearly 2.5 decades on some diet or other so I still find myself struggling with guilt if I eat "bad foods" even though I know that I'm eating them at much smaller quantities than I used to but also that as part of a balanced diet the whole point of the surgery was to allow me to eat "normally" - which includes the odd bit of chocolate and the occasional McDonalds

batsandeggs · 15/04/2023 17:29

You sound quite bitter. It’s a different way of losing weight but has its own challenges nonetheless, and still requires dedication and hard work. Unfriend and cheer up.

deedeemegadoodoo · 15/04/2023 17:32

It’s as easy / difficult as any other diet, but it works.

You do realise what goes into losing weight after weight loss surgery dont you?

Obviously not by your comments. Obviously if someone doesnt stick to their diet/food regime after surgery, which is hugely hard work, then they wont lose weight or keep it off if they do

WLS in and of itself does not enable someone just to magically lose weight, you have to eat less, a lot less, in fact if you believe most of the threads on here you couldnt survive on the calorie deficit that WLS requires, except you do survive it because you have to and have to stick to it.

Years down the line perhaps people gain because they dont stick to that, but its not a lack of 'diet and fitness' at all. It requires this.

Blended mcdonalds? 🤮

I don’t think it is because to stop overeating you need discipline and continued motivation. Someone with a GB wouldn’t physically be able to physically overeat.

A GB would definitely have its difficulties though.

SunshineGeorgie · 15/04/2023 17:39

Your bitterness sounds worse than their bragging to be honest!

They can physically overeat

They'd be stupid to, given all the money its cost them. But they could do it.

BeretRaspberry · 15/04/2023 17:46

Not what you asked but I know someone who had WLS (NHS) and is now having the weight loss injections. Even though WLS was supposed to be the best thing and it ‘would definitely work’.

When will people realise that these things rarely work long term. And if they do ‘work’, they usually come with HUGE consequences.

I’d just unfollow.

You can't physically over eat but it is not as simple as that.

I eat tiny portions - all of my meals are eaten on side plates and some days I can't even manage that - but a tiny portion of chicken is not the same nutritional value as a tiny portion of chocolate, but some people will eat the chocolate instead of the chicken, and the crisps instead of the salad etc and the quantity might be the same but the calories are not.

So, if you're not in the right headspace to make the most of your WLS as the tool it is then it's pointless.

5128gap · 15/04/2023 18:04

I think the real problem is in making a big fuss of women when they're slim tbh. How they got there is irrelevant really, the message is the same 'you're superior now because you're thin', and that's the issue.

THIS!

Elvis1956 · 15/04/2023 18:06

I'm with you I've had eating issues all my life (male54) and it fucked me off when someone I knew did exactly this. I have a cousin who had the band 20+ years ago and worked hard to keep slim. I'm on yet another diet and have lost a stone and a half...But my trouser size has not really reduced and I'm struggling with that...

I think that view says more about your view of weight than the reality to be honesst.

Ive lost a lot of weight recently, both pre and post WLS. My friends and family are over the moon for me as its knocked years off my life, my mobility is improved,, my health is improved etc etc.

You may have a point when you're talking about someone just losing a few pounds for appearance sake but when someone loses stones and stones, it has a big impact on their health.

bellac11 · 15/04/2023 18:08

Actually I dont mean its knocked years off my life surely!!!!

I mean its added years to my life!

Wtfishappeningnow · 15/04/2023 18:08

Facebook is shit. Delete the app - you will feel happier

MrsDoylesDoily · 15/04/2023 18:09

Weird thing to get narked about.

Just hide them or unfriend them.

Makewayforsummer · 15/04/2023 18:10

Bollocks. Blending McDonalds is not going to make
it take up less volume so it would be completely pointless.

A lot of fat people hate it when other fat people lose weight. Thats where a lot of this stems from

You would never see or hear people being preachy, judgemental and superior about people needing medical intervention to come of heroin or fags or booze.

141mum · 15/04/2023 18:15

It’s not easy having a band or a sleeve, I’ve had both, you have to still work at it, I could v v easily eat a pack of biscuits or box of chocs, it’s not a miracle cure

Mojoj · 15/04/2023 18:17

I agree. It's lazy and doesn't address the reasons why they overeat in the first place. Far better to spend the money on therapy.

Whisper23 · 15/04/2023 18:22

Certain people seem to think weight loss surgery etc is "cheating". I'm convinced some think overweight people shouldn't be allowed to lose weight this way, they should have to do it the hard way, they must suffer for the crime of being overweight.

I saw a clip of the Lorraine show recently where they were talking about Ozempic. She was so sneery about it. Pulling her face about some of the possible side effects and saying people should just work hard at it instead. It almost sounds like some people would prefer fat people to stay fat.
