Why does everyone think it's half term

My kids have been on Easter hols for 3.5 weeks.
During this time I've heard about 20 people saying "oh yes, it's half term". Even parents. Even on the radio.
It's pissing me off now, idk why I care.

I'm with you.

In England, there are 3 terms in a school year. Half terms are half way through each term, so in Oct, Feb and May. The break between each term is Christmas/Easter or Summer holidays.

Other countries obviously will be different but surely, anywhere, a half term is half way through a term. Clue is in the name.

I said half term by mistake at one point, it was a slip.of the tongue. I dont think its half term. World didnt end, I think you need to chill 😁

It's annoying, isn't it?

This has cropped up in the last few years and it baffles me. It's like calling all the school holidays 'Christmas break' or all the terms 'spring term.'

I get accidentally using the wrong phrase, we've all done that, but it's become weirdly prevalent.
