Period is a week late!

So my period is over a week late 😬...

Usually, my periods are regular, cycle is every 28 maybe 29 days. I've had no cramping or usual signs that my period is on its way.

I've taken 3 pregnancy tests which have all been negative.

AIBU to see a doctor and ask for a blood test to double check or try and find out what on Earth is going on?

Well, have you had unprotected sex?

Snowjokes · 14/04/2023 10:48

How old are you, and have you been having (protected?) sex?

NC17 · 14/04/2023 10:51

I'm 31, married and DH uses condoms.

Have you had unprotected sex? Wait a couple of days then retest.
When I had periods my cycle was sometimes up to 35/36 days. Yours could be due any day now.
Have you lost weight, changed diet, done more exercise or been under stress?

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 14/04/2023 10:52

If you’re like me you’ll book an appt or something and then your period will show up 😄 or you’ll get a +ve.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 14/04/2023 10:53

But yes I have a super regular cycle and have only ever been late once (outside of pregancy), so weird! But can just be a thing that happens.

mumstheword1982 · 14/04/2023 10:55

This happened on my last cycle, ended up arriving on day 38. I rang the Dr and they said they'd look into it if I had 3 weird cycles. My DH has had the snip years ago so I didn't take any tests though.

Orangey25 · 14/04/2023 10:57

One month my period was randomly late and then back to normal next month. It didn't even occur to me to go the docs for a complete one off. Why would you? Obviously if it happened a few times but not a one off

theworldsgonefeckingmad · 14/04/2023 11:05

Have you had covid? That ballses my period up every time I get it even though it's so mild with hardly any symptoms

NC17 · 14/04/2023 11:06

I was considering going to the doctors because I know that false negatives do happen. I don't live in the UK and I can get a doctor's appointment easily.

No changes that I can think of that might explain it but then again maybe it is just a one off.

My period moves +- a week every few months.

Albiboba · 14/04/2023 11:10

Your doctor isn’t going to do anything because your period is a week late. There are so many things that can impact your cycle.

MeinKraft · 14/04/2023 11:10

I wouldn't see a doctor for this, no. Anovulatory cycles happen occasionally. Just keep track in case your periods are always late or missing - could be the start of peri menopause.

MeinKraft · 14/04/2023 11:11

Oh sorry just saw you're 31. Yeah it's probably just one of those things.

Catshaveiteasy · 14/04/2023 11:14

My periods used to come a week late if I experienced any change in my life eg taking exams, on holiday. I put it down to stress even though I didn't necessarily feel stressed. Though I do remember worrying about being pregnant - that delayed it too!

I wouldn't bother with the doctor yet as you'll probably find out soon enough - wait another week or so.

Palpal12 · 20/05/2024 20:36

Wonder if everything was okay and it showed up. I have been under stress period is unusually late so I am worried bc 2 cycles ago it arrived unusually early.

S22 · 02/07/2024 05:46

My periods were 28 days , since this February they have been 29,30, 26, 30 and then this month 35. I have started gym 3 months ago but surely that’s shouldn’t delay period. Don’t really want to go docs about it. I’m 32

Cosycore · 02/07/2024 05:48

I went to the GP about a weird period and got fobbed off. Only for my periods not to be regular after that. GP didn’t care.

S22 · 02/07/2024 05:56

Yes that’s why im
it going. How long after did they return to Normal? What lengths were yours ?

Zanatdy · 02/07/2024 05:57

It’s not something to rush to the doctor about in my opinion. Wait a bit longer and retest. Could just be a one off
