DH doing sons birthday present for him

Son had a birthday present of one of those little 'excavate the bones and put together the dinosaur kit'. He spent an hour yesterday carefully 'excavating' the bones and wanted to assemble it but it was tricky, I struggled with helping him put the first bits together we didn't have time to do it justice so I said to put it aside and we'd get DH (stronger fingers!) to help him when he was home (Friday evening or the weekend). Mentioned to DH yesterday evening that son would come ask for his help, he said they could do it at the weekend.

Wake up this morning to find that DH woke up and put it together without son this morning while son was still asleep??? (Apparently the first bit we struggled with was warped but the rest went together easily). Nothing left for son to do.

DH says he 'did something nice' and I'm being unreasonable to think he shouldn't do our child's birthday present project without him?
