To ask for the room to be turned down?

Currently on a uk holiday with DH and young DC. Staying in a 4* well known chain hotel. We are here for 5 nights total. Obviously it's common now to be told that your room will not be made up daily as it used to be in the past and I completely understand that is to do with environmental issues re towels, they did say that if we would like the rooms to be done then we just need to ask. However I do like the beds to be made etc when staying away from home. We are currently on day 4, so far I've asked twice if the room can be done. I said that I don't actually want the towels changed as we hadn't used them all anyway but I would like the beds to be done, we've run out of toilet roll, run out of clean mugs and would it be possible to have a couple more sachets of coffee.
The first time I asked it just wasn't don't at all. The second time I asked I came back to the room and new towels had been put in the room (which I specifically had said we didn't need) but none of the other stuff had been done.

We've saved really hard for this little holiday as we can't afford to go abroad at the moment, not that it's relevant but we are paying over £100 a night and that's just for accommodation not including parking or breakfast, so are we really being that unreasonable to request new toilet rolls, mugs etc?

I travel regularly for work. I am delighted not to have a stranger come in my room when I'm out. It's my space.

So are you delighted by having no toilet roll too?

That's odd but that's you!

Not everyone feels the same, clearly!

This isn't a 4* hotel in that case! I'd expect at least a daily check on supplies, a bed made up, and a towel check. I get this even in a B&B.

Servicing the room should be the default. If you don’t want to done then you put the sign on the door to ask them not to. You certainly shouldn’t be going without toilet roll overnight.

AskMeMore · 15/04/2023 13:13

Why not stay in an air bnb if no one is going to service a room? I mean that is the benefit of staying in a hotel. I see no point if the room is not going tio eb serviced.

I think when they messed it up I’d have put in a complaint at the reception and asked for toilet roll and coffee sachets etc to be topped up ASAP.

If only OP had done that.... 🤔

🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, for 4* that is poor service. I would perhaps have a quick friendly word with the manager as you have already asked more than once.

Given that she was on day 4 out of 5 when she posted, and that was 5 days ago I expect she’s home now and able to use her own toilet roll.

MorrisZapp · 17/04/2023 17:07

It makes no difference if the hotel costs fifty quid or 500 quid, daily cleaning is included.

You can usually grab what you need from the cleaning trolley but you shouldn't have to. If they won't empty the bin then tie it up and leave it outside the room.

I'd be raging about this!

This whole thread reminds of of Pam from Gavin and Stacey having Stalios by the neck for not changing her fruit pastille laden quilt trap.

YANBU; but I read the thread title at first as 'To ask for the room to be burned down?'- that would have been a bit U!

bringitonnow · 18/04/2023 16:15

If I wanted to make my own bed up and top up my own coffee and toilet roll I would go self catering not in a hotel. I have never had this happen in any hotel I have stayed in either in UK or abroad.

Very sad show of affairs. .
Not having the room cleaned?.
Why do you say I'm on my period? I used to say I've got my period. Not for over 20 years.
