Stomping toddler on neighbours head…

My 22 month old DC has been a consistently unpredictable sleeper (DC also has cancer). But we feel like we’re emerging from the bleak sleep tunnel into a new glorious period of 10 hours of sleep. We all suddenly have so much more energy, it’s transformative.

The dilemma is, from about 6:30am each day, DC is ready to walk, heavily(!) from kitchen to bedroom to living room.

The neighbour downstairs mentioned DC’s early morning “pitter patter”.

I bought 3 thick playmats for the living room and DC’s bedroom to try to absorb the sound of his feet - but it doesn’t disguise him running between these rooms. Even if he walks, this child seems to have the world‘s heaviest footsteps.

For unknown reasons, DH is making this my problem saying I need to find a solution for our neighbour. I already spent $$$$ on Totter & Tumble playmats thinking they would assist.

DH says we need to teach toddler to step gently from room to room at all hours

I think we can have an hour of quiet from 6:30-7:30am but after that, DC can play before he leaves for the day at 8:30… I have a feeling I’m BU…

How to people in apartments handle this? We can’t get carpet and live in an old town apartment with wooden floors …

Given you can't carpet I assume there is nothing under the floorboards to absorb noise? What about those foam tiles, I'd out those down everywhere.

My mum lives under kids and their dick neighbours have just put down laminate throughout and the noise is awful.

Can you make it a game? Early morning he has to be a ninja and tip toe across to your room/telly etc - he gets points for being the quietest ninja/spy

Apart from that, people who live in downstairs flats kind of need to put up with a bit of noise....

What do they wear on their feet? Would slipper socks with the non slip bottoms be quieter?

UpUpUpU · 12/04/2023 08:46

Does your child wear slippers? That may help a little?

MissHoollie · 12/04/2023 08:51

I think he's right

If DH is so focused on the problem, make him sort it out.

Skybluepinky · 12/04/2023 10:48

Address the behaviour, make a game of tiptoe and making little noise.
Not worth annoying the neighbours for something that is simple to fix.

2 adults, 1 child. Where is H while you're presumably getting stuff ready for the day?
