To think a grown woman....

Should be able to know how to operate a dishwasher?
New colleague didn't know how to do it. She stacked it correctly but was then standing around looking stumped. I had to intervene and help.
She is 41!

A grown woman should have the maturity to just support another woman in doing a mundane task rather than assasinating her on a public forum too.... What else has she done to upset you? Or have you just decided you can't tolerate her for superficial, bitchy reasons?

ScottBakula · 12/04/2023 05:22

I have never owed a dish washer , the sites I eork at all have different models 2 are really straight forward ( because they are old ) I swear the others look like they could launch a rocket.

Yabvu to expect a new colleague to instantly know how to use one.

Gingernan · 12/04/2023 05:34

Never had one, always had to do my own washing up, family of 5,even did it all myself for the kids parties. Small kitchen etc. Having said that I now have to use one at work. Its not just the tablet thingy it's the finisher and salt. If they kept the manual it would help! And some of the programmes last for HOURS. Stacking, emptying, not a problem. I get by. Darn machine, they should rinse their own cups!

You really can't judge someone's intelligence or capability on whether or not they are confident with a dishwasher. There again I've been called abnormal for not driving. Cheek of it.
First World problems.

RoryMcGory · 12/04/2023 06:02

I've never owned or used a dish washer. Wouldn't have a clue, I'm 53.

notacooldad · 12/04/2023 06:05

Our new one at work stumped everyone the other month!

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 12/04/2023 06:05

If someone doesn't have a dishwasher at home, why on earth would they know how to use a dishwasher??? In any case, modern appliances have so many functions that it's rarely blindingly obvious what to do. You're being very judgey.

wow, what a horrible reaction - I am sure there are hundreds of things she can do, which would just make you "stand around looking stumped"

dish washers dont feature in every bodies lives you know.

Erdinger · 12/04/2023 06:17

You don’t sound very tolerant. Glad you aren’t a colleague of mine.

KitKatLove · 12/04/2023 06:19

It’s not rocket science but having worked with a colleague who didn’t know how to use a staple remover a dishwasher would be complicated to some.

JackiePlace · 12/04/2023 06:19

Hubblebubble · 11/04/2023 22:32

I wouldn't either. I've never had one. I could afford one, but it doesn't strike me as energy efficient or best hygienic.

You are incorrect on both counts!

palelavender · 12/04/2023 06:21

Well at least she asked. We had a new young woman at work and she fairly rudely declined any guidance on the use of the dishwasher. She put in ordinary dishwashing liquid instead of the the dishwasher detergent and we ended up with a kitchenette a foot deep in foam.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/04/2023 06:22

YABU. Neither would I know how to use a dishwasher because I've never had one

WonderingWanda · 12/04/2023 06:29

Op would you be this upset if a fully grown man didn't know how to operate a dishwasher?

Spanielsarepainless · 12/04/2023 06:37

I didn't know until I was 55. Some of us manage without them.

PuttingDownRoots · 12/04/2023 06:39

My washing machine likes to stump people. All the settings are in German...

Anyway different appliances have different controls. You get used to the ones you use frequently. New ones can take a few minutes to work out, or someone to demonstrate. Doesnt mean that person is incapable.

WhatWouldJeevesDo · 12/04/2023 06:39

If she had avoided the thing altogether you might have a point but she didn’t so you don’t.

Avatartar · 12/04/2023 06:42

We’ve got one, but it’s taken me a week to work out how to use the holiday one- no instructions and can’t see model number to Google it - trial, error & washing up by hand when we needed stuff before we worked it out - help or give colleague a break!

Beezknees · 12/04/2023 06:44

I wouldn't know how to do it. I've never owned a dishwasher or used one in my life so how would I know?

borntobequiet · 12/04/2023 06:48

Good for you with your dishwasher skills. I’m sure you’re talented in many other ways too.

FawnFrenchieMum · 12/04/2023 06:49

We’ve had a dishwasher for years, just got a new one but had to use the instructions to figure this one out.

I don’t think knowing how to use a dishwasher or not is the decider on whether someone is a fully functioning adult and I’m glad I’d don’t share my work kitchen with you!

Now if people could actually load the dishwasher in my office instead of leaving shit in the sink and on top of the dishwasher.

chipsandpeas · 12/04/2023 06:50

Judgey much
as a 45 year old grown up I’d have no clue about a dishwasher as I don’t own one and never used one

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 12/04/2023 06:57

Nearly fifty and never had one, so I don't actually know how they work. I am, however, naturally gifted in working out how to operate unfamiliar appliances so I would probably be able to do it, although not as quickly the first time as someone accustomed to it.

FarmGirl78 · 12/04/2023 06:59

Maybe she's so very rich and well off she has her housemaid fill and operate the one in the staff quarters of her massive rambling house.

Or you know, maybe she's never been fortunate enough to live in a house with one. 🙄

Goodread1 · 12/04/2023 07:05

Maye she uses her wonderful hands ✋️ that nature gave and some quirky people say God had divine intervention of creating too,

@ToTheMax0

You obviously have not shown her briefly what to do have you 🙄
