To think a grown woman....

Should be able to know how to operate a dishwasher?
New colleague didn't know how to do it. She stacked it correctly but was then standing around looking stumped. I had to intervene and help.
She is 41!

YABU. I'm late 30s and never grew with nor have I ever owned a dishwasher. I would be able to stack it but would need to be shown how to actually operate it.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 11/04/2023 22:52

How middle class can you be?

RaininSummer · 11/04/2023 22:53

I've never used one other than put some dishes into somebody else's. Wouldn't know how unless it was totally obvious.

champagneplanet · 11/04/2023 22:58

Well I must be a dick too, i'm 41 and I have no clue on how to use/stack/turn on a dishwasher. It doesn't affect my life in any way because I don't have one and don't want one (I had a choice between tumble dryer and dishwasher for the space in my kitchen).

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 11/04/2023 22:58

So she's a new colleague and your bitching about her already.

I'm sure there will be a lot of other things about her that annoy you 🙄

Are you the office mean girl perchance?

Imagine being a grown woman and starting a thread like this.

This is what I initially thought when I read this thread, glad you said it 😂

Whatthebarnacles · 11/04/2023 22:59

Age has no bearing here. You're just being plain nasty. I've never owned a dishwasher, nor have any of my friends and family. When I first had to use the one at work I was genuinely perplexed. I had to ask for help myself. Ps. I'm 38, given that you feel that's important in some way. Chill out! Can imagine you're the type to print (and laminate!) passive aggressive notes about how to change the bins too 😳

Stripedbag101 · 11/04/2023 23:01

I can’t imagine ever caring about a colleagues ability to use a dishwasher!

was she employed to operate the dishwasher? Does this have a bearing on her ability to do her job?

why does this bother you so much?

I don't know how to use one because I never had one. I'm sure I could figure it out if I had to, I just never had to.

There's no "should" about it.

tescocreditcard · 11/04/2023 23:04

I feel sorry for your new colleague. You've got it in for her by the sounds of it.

Your sneery post about her is horrid.

burnoutbabe · 11/04/2023 23:05

I know how to use my dishwasher but which button does what on my parents one is one I have no idea! (I would google the model /Manusl) if I had to operate it myself.

It was only after 10 years i checked how to use the delay function on mine. I am sure there is a button I have not used yet on mine too!

Iwantamarshmallowman · 11/04/2023 23:09

I don't know how to use mine or the one at work.

LibrariansGiveUsPower · 11/04/2023 23:10

Oh come on, they are all different. Get over yourself.

Waitymatey · 11/04/2023 23:10

Nah, I never used dishwashers as I Yvan wash better, though judging by the state of the dishes at work there are plenty of grown men and women who are completely sackless when it comes to the application of fairy liquid and a bit of elbow grease

Happiedays · 11/04/2023 23:12

yabu… never had one, I had to Google what to do the first time I had to put the work one on, everyone else put their stuff in so I didn’t have to load it. No one complained so I guess I got it right…

Tinkerbyebye · 11/04/2023 23:17

Believe it or not lots of people don’t have dishwashers

don’t be so nasty

FangsForTheMemory · 11/04/2023 23:17

I stayed in a holiday let in France that had a top loading washing machine. I’d never used one before so I went and asked the landlord who lived next door for help. He was about 70. He looked at the machine then at me and said ‘I’ll get my wife.’

OoooohMatron · 11/04/2023 23:18

Maybe shock horror she doesn't have a dishwasher at home

😂

PriamFarrl · 11/04/2023 23:20

I only learned how to use one about 10 years ago when we had one fitted. Before that I would have been clueless.

I can put a tape in a reel to reel tape player and edit sound tape though, can you?

niclw · 11/04/2023 23:20

I'm 43, educated to degree level, work in a middle management position but my kitchen is so small that I can't have a dishwasher (and there is no other space in my 2 bed house). When I go to my parents I can stack the dishwasher but have no idea how to start it. There are many people who don't have dishwashers so I think you are unfairly judging her.

Trinity65 · 11/04/2023 23:20

I have never owned or used a dishwasher so I wouldn't be sure either

321user123 · 11/04/2023 23:22

How rude. What if she never owned/used one?

GarlicGrace · 11/04/2023 23:23

I cleared up after a dinner party at friends' place. They had a Neff dishwasher. I've used many different makes, only needing a quick scan of the settings, but this one had me stumped for half an hour!

Ofc, it was obvious once I'd finally worked out the obvious correct sequence 🙄

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 11/04/2023 23:24

I'm 40 next week and only used my first dishwasher this year. So yes, I'd have been a tad stumped until then.

However, I did take my broken washing machine apart this week, disassembled, fixed and cleaned the motor and now it's running perfectly. How would you get on with that @ToTheMax0?

People have different skills.
