To think this test might be positive...?

I have a bit of an odd one. My partner tells me, quite reasonably, that it's impossible for me to be pregnant and I'm being unreasonable to think I might be.

To give a bit of background and avoid drip feeding. I had a baby last summer. We already have twins. I usually have fairly reliable 28 day cycles. My period returned around September.

My last few periods were:
3rd January
31st January
28th February
Then it was due 28th March but arrived on the 24th. It was a proper period with the usual cramps, bleeding just the same as usual not lighter or anything. Lasted about 5 or 6 days. Nothing unusual just that it was early.

I've felt the past few days that I've been having ovulation pains. I usually get them right around ovulation time and they're quite distinct. The only thing out of the ordinary is that on Saturday I got a migraine which I usually get in early pregnancy. So, knowing it was extremely unlikely I bought a 2 pack of those cheap Freedom tests from Asda, took one and it was stark white. But today I just had a random feeling to take the other and this is what I got... it came up within 5 minutes and to me is too dark to to be an evap or indent etc. It very much has colour. I went out and bought another couple of packs of cheap ones. I live rurally and only have a super expensive pharmacy which sells Frers and Clear Blue so avoiding that at the moment. But the 2 different kinds of other cheap tests have also been completely negative. I have in the past tested positive quite early, about a 5-6 days before my period was due but it's obviously way too early for this cycle and if I had conceived last cycle the other tests would be positive by now too?

I'm so confused! AIBU to think I could be pregnant?? Despite having a fairly heavy (normal for me) period and not even a glimpse of a line on any other tests??

To think this test might be positive...?

I use those type of tests, and that's a clear positive. No need for a first response/ clear blue. Was the positive with your first pee of the day by any chance? Those tests can be less sensitive and only show a positive with first pee of the day/ once you get to a certain day. Ive always had to wait until after my period's due and use them first thing to get a positive. Might be worth another first thing tomorrow to absolutely confirm.

No it was maybe my second or third but I hadn't had much to drink because I had dropped the older kids off at nursery then did the food shop so it was when I got home, the baby was sleeping and I just randomly thought hmm I'll go take that other test haha

I had a false positive on one of those cheap tests before - it was very clear like yours but I was negative on every other test I did for a week so can’t have been pregnant.

Oh really? Well that answers my point re the tests, I didn't realise that you could get such a definitive false positive.

That sounds the most likely explanation then OP.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 11/04/2023 22:37

Based on your dates and fact you’ve used protection I’d say it’s highly unlikely you are pregnant and explanation more likely to be unreliable brand of test which someone posted upthread. If you had ovulated on day 14 that would have been 4 days ago so highly unlikely to give you a positive pregnancy test at this stage…

DiabolicalDee · 11/04/2023 22:41

They shouldn't be allowed to sell cheap inaccurate tests, I mean what's the point?

Oh wow I didn't realise a false positive could be that strong! Well, that is odd. I'll use one of the other cheap ones that are left in the box tomorrow and see but I suspect it's a similar situation to yours!

I know right?? It just doesn't add up. And definitely sounds like other people have had similar experiences with strong false positives!

No idea. It seems quite common as well. Must be really disappointing, or worrying, for some people.

Could it be that you’re further along than you thought and this test is showing as it was diluted more than the others with the hook effect? I’ve never seen an evap so strong. If cost is an issue you can get about 50 of these on Amazon for less than a tenner (£5 a few years ago when I bought my last batch!). Look for one step 10miu tests (the wider ones if you can find them!)

Mamai90 · 11/04/2023 23:10

It looks like a clear positive however I've had false positives in the past so I always take a back up test. Admittedly none of my false positives have been as clear as yours so I dont think we can say either way. I hope you get the result you want though!

yipitsmesunshine · 11/04/2023 23:15

Oh my instant reaction was positive result but now I'm not sure after reading the posts. Keep us updated op abd good luck xx

Haha they're 3 and the baby is 9 months. I think I come across as relaxed because a) life is already mental and having twins first kind of prepares you for utter madness all the time and b) I'm telling myself it's impossible for me to be pregnant based on the dates. Oh and c) because I've been lured into a false sense of security because the baby is a total dream and surely a 4th would be the same...right??

Maybe if it turns out and is confirmed I am indeed pregnant I won't be so relaxed...

@threelittlescones

Twins (3years), baby 9 months... I'm surprised you're in the position of possibly being pregnant 😂😂

of course a 4th would be as much of a dream as baby 3, could also be babies 4&5 🤪

are the twins at school in Sept or have you got another year with them
at home?

to me it sounds highly unlikely you're pregnant, but for after this I'd be doubling up in contraception until you're definitely ready for 4,5,6....

They're usually all asleep by 8pm 😂

They won't be going to school this year no. They'll start next August and then turn 5 in September. They go to nursery 2, sometimes 3, days a week and have done since just before they turned 2.

Imagine it was another set of twins 😂

I don't think I'm pregnant because the other cheapie test today only had a very faint line. I can't say I'm too disappointed but strangely I am a little bit.

What country are you in?

SorePaw · 12/04/2023 19:33

@threelittlescones

I can understand being a little bit disappointed!

It'll be nice to have the twins home for another 18 months(ish).

someone I know is a twin, she's the middle set of twins. One set older, one set younger. All 'natural'. I can't imagine it.

I hope number 4 (4&5??) comes along when you'd like them to!

You're doing well to get them all asleep for 8pm!! 😊

Scalessayeek · 14/04/2023 07:40

Have you had a period or any more tests @threelittlescones ?

BertieBotts · 14/04/2023 07:53

I can see this is three days old now - any updates?

It def looks like a positive. The "third line" many are seeing is just a shadow, the test has a bump on it, probably there to show that the test line is between the bump and the control line.

A faint line on another test also sounds positive to me TBH. And would explain why the others were negative the day before.

The mini period could have been implantation bleeding.

threelittlescones · 14/04/2023 10:57

Hiya no I haven't taken any more tests and no period but it isn't due for another week!

The last period I had was a proper one, it was just 4 days early :)
