...to enjoy reading these threads so much, when it's really none of my business?

Full disclosure. I'm a 48yr old man, happily childfree (or is it childless, I don't know the correct terminology on so many things these days, due to my old age! Ha!)

However, I only discovered the AIBU threads when my sister, who has 2 kids, asked my opinion on something a few months ago and sent me a link. I've been hooked ever since!

I love being an uncle to my nephew and niece - all the fun, none of the responsibility, etc. I'd never have had the guts to have my own kids, despite many opportunities. I'm far too selfish and financially insecure.

AIBU, to enjoy reading all these threads sometimes on my breaks at work. Or should I just "get a life" and find something else to occupy my time because it's really none of my business to be commenting on things which have nothing to do with me?

I've just signed up, so will abide by the vote - if most people say: "bugger off" I promise I'll delete account.

Either way, hardly important! Ha! I'm just on a very slow day!

All opinions welcome, the meaner the better! ;)

Why do you want mean opinions?

Cattenberg · 11/04/2023 14:31

I think YANBU. It’s why tabloid “journalists” scour Mumsnet for cheap copy. You may as well cut out the middle man.

You're not that important.

IfYouLikePinaCoIadas · 11/04/2023 14:34

That's what most of us are here for.

DancingWithTheMoonlitKnight · 11/04/2023 14:34

No need to announce your 'man here' arrival.

waterlego · 11/04/2023 14:35

I think ‘childfree’ is usually used by people who have chosen not to have children, while ‘childless’ might be more likely to be used by those who had hoped to have children but for whom it didn’t work out.

I don’t really have an opinion on the rest of it though.

I do the same..Life a bit if a shit show at the moment do come on here to escape it. Amazes me though how sime people use this as an opportunity to be nasty🙄

mri · 11/04/2023 14:40

I scroll throughout the day just to kill time. No reason why you shouldn't do the same just because you have no kids and are a man!

Most men on here are whining over entitled men-children, so it depends you fall into that category.

IncompleteSenten · 11/04/2023 14:52

You are far from alone.
It's called Mumsnet but it hasn't been a little site where parents share parenting tips for about 20 years.
Lots and lots of posters aren't parents.
Most threads have bugger all to do with being a parent.

It's just a big site with a lot of traffic.

Levadia · 11/04/2023 15:04

Agreed. I've seen this thing before though as a meme? "Man here!" As if that carries some sort of weight!
I think it's important though to be honest. It's called MUMSnet, not PERSONnet?

My point is the AIBU threads are fucking hilarious sometimes! Far more enjoyable than just doomscrolling news when I've got a spare hour.

All life is represented! The good, the bad, and the batshit crazy! I'm quite addicted to it!

Just felt if I'm reading it so much, I should have the guts to actually sign up and join in! Ha! Wasn't sure if that was appropriate though. It's all just good-natured fun for me though. No angle, no dog-in-the-fight on anything.

Anyway, hello!

I always end up on Active Threads when I really should be reading the news. It’s far more interesting/less depressing.

You’re not wrong to think all of life is on Mumsnet. I can ask any question I ever wanted to know, via search, and I’ll get an answer. It also goes well beyond AIBU…

Plus your perspective is equally valuable, kids or no kids.

Love the AiBU threads... live vicariously through all the people who lead far more exciting lives than me

Levadia · 11/04/2023 17:29

Thanks. It just felt a bit weird to be posting on AIBU without declaring my gender and childfree status.

Anyone seen "Fight Club"? - the protagonist who turns up to cancer support groups just for something to do! Ha!

I'm genuinely interested on many of these AIBU threads here because they deal with human condition - shit we all feel.

I'd never dream of posting on the breastfeeding forum (if there is one? but you get my point).

AIBU is great. I'm also a fantastic arsehole with nearly 5 decades of experience who has avoided any commitment or relationships beyond the sexual, despite trying to! Years of therapy.

So if anyone wants to use me as a punch-bag, or hit me up for how "hello, man here!" world works, I promise I'm sincere.

It'll make me feel validated and might help you too with insights?

All hail the drunken idiot man trying to be kind and outgrow his 1980's programming! Ha x

I think everyone is welcome to join in, or should be! I love reading mumsnet posts, it gives you an insight into people's lives and goings-on. I'm a mum myself but I can imagine it would be interesting to me if I wasn't a parent, or even if I was a man (shudder Grin).

Mumsnet is a great resource and is useful for all kinds of information. Over the years I've also seen some very kind, supportive posts.
