...to enjoy reading these threads so much, when it's really none of my business?

Full disclosure. I'm a 48yr old man, happily childfree (or is it childless, I don't know the correct terminology on so many things these days, due to my old age! Ha!)

However, I only discovered the AIBU threads when my sister, who has 2 kids, asked my opinion on something a few months ago and sent me a link. I've been hooked ever since!

I love being an uncle to my nephew and niece - all the fun, none of the responsibility, etc. I'd never have had the guts to have my own kids, despite many opportunities. I'm far too selfish and financially insecure.

AIBU, to enjoy reading all these threads sometimes on my breaks at work. Or should I just "get a life" and find something else to occupy my time because it's really none of my business to be commenting on things which have nothing to do with me?

I've just signed up, so will abide by the vote - if most people say: "bugger off" I promise I'll delete account.

Either way, hardly important! Ha! I'm just on a very slow day!

All opinions welcome, the meaner the better! ;)

Plenty of posters here are men, child free/childless both women and men. It's not something you need to declare.

Levadia · 11/04/2023 17:44

Thanks. OK, I now feel justified. I'm gonna get busy commenting on the AIBU threads forthwith!

(I was just worried that it's really none of my business to be pontificating on real parenting issues, when the closest I've ever got to being a parent was taking my nephew for an ice-cream ten years ago - was the hottest day in August and I only had £2 in my pocket and I was so thirsty.

I bought him the £1.99 Solero ice-cream, and it handed it to him in the pushchair. He threw it to the ground and said "Bah! I don't like this! Get me the other ice-cream on the picture!" Ha!

I wanted to break his fucking neck! (joking, only because I was so thirsty). However, in that moment I walked the buggy back to my sister's house and said "kids? nah, no thanks!" Ha! x

Yuk! Why does the OP's opening post and follow up give me the serious jitters??

This is the weirdest thread I've seen for a while.

clpsmum · 11/04/2023 19:16

I'm proud of you keep it up and enjoy the drama!!

TorchwoodWho · 11/04/2023 19:16

I'd hope the replies berating you are meant in humour, but you seem to know how some posters on here can be, so I suspect they may be serious!
I wouldn't ever start a thread on here myself, but just ignore the ones coming on simply to stick the boot in and it's fine. 😂

TribeD · 11/04/2023 19:20

Give over with the kisses at the end of your posts.

It's not Netmums.

minou123 · 11/04/2023 19:38

It'll make me feel validated and might help you too with insights?

This is what we live for @Levadia

Thedogscollar · 11/04/2023 20:56

Welcome@Levadia you fantastic arsehole. Your words not mine😉

CakeIsNotAvailable · 11/04/2023 21:00

I joined MN before I had children (and had lurked for years before that). I think a lot of posters here don't have children. But I did feel a bit self-conscious about posting until I was TTC/pregnant - I felt I didn't belong until then.

BrioNotBiro · 11/04/2023 21:20

I'm retired and childfree, so no direct interest in child rearing, but MN is a wonderful window on other people's lives. People may lie, but many open up and reveal things under the safety of anonymity. I've learned all sorts here about others' pressures and problems that I would have had no idea about otherwise.

The government had a 'Mass Observation' project during/after the war where people wrote about their daily lives and which is a great resource to historians. In it's own way, MN could be the same to researchers in the future!

TheKeatingFive · 11/04/2023 21:23

YANBU at all. AIBU can be great entertainment. Enjoy.

DancingWithTheMoonlitKnight · 11/04/2023 14:34

No need to announce your 'man here' arrival.

Yeah this. Jesus. Just read and give your opinion if you feel like it. Sometimes useful to get a cross section of opinions on a topic. You may even have an expertise you can share.

But really there is no need to figuratively loudly pull up your chair, slap your hands on the table and shout “I’m here”
