Sorry for the title and for posting on AIBU, but I've had a cold all week and now since Sunday have had symptoms of a throat infection. I rang out of hours tonight as I'm feeling unwell and my neck/ear is sore on the same side as this tonsil. Which looks to have a white thing behind it? I'm panicking that it could be quinsy (I do have anxiety). It's a bad picture but the best I could get

It’s probably a tonsil stone OP

splilt · 10/04/2023 23:16

I agree with tonsil stone tbh.

Shoemadlady · 10/04/2023 23:17

Could just be tonsillitis or simply a sore throat caused by a virus. Please try not to make it more serious. Call your Gp or out of hours dr

crazeecatlady · 10/04/2023 23:17

I would have said a tonsil stone too

ChirpyChirpyCheepCheepBeep · 10/04/2023 23:18

Tonsil stone

ChocHotolate · 10/04/2023 23:19

100% not quinsy

Cherryblossom99 · 10/04/2023 23:22

Thanks all, I have called OOH and they prescribed AB's over the phone without seeing me so I wasn't sure. I have a history of jumping to the worst case 😳

Do you have a cotton bud? If so - wet it (to make it softer) and push against the tonsil. If it is a tonsil stone it will come out. You can then enjoy the horror of just how awful they smell!

mmmmmmmmmm lucky OP.

Ahem.

StaunchMomma · 10/04/2023 23:41

Agree that it looks like a tonsil stone. If it was tonsillitis there would be more white bits.

Pennymixture · 10/04/2023 23:59

It's a tonsil stone. You need to poke/dig it out. Some of us have to do this on the reg.

dontgobaconmyheart · 11/04/2023 00:02

I also think it looks like a tonsil stone. I'd do salt water gargling alongside the antibiotics OP.

TheChosenTwo · 11/04/2023 00:04

That definitely looks like a really juicy tonsil stone! I’m quite jealous (obviously not of the throat infection and general unwell-ness, I do hope you feel better very soon!), I had to get one out the other day and it was the first one in ages.

And to post pictures in Sporner Cor er!!

SocialLite · 11/04/2023 00:21

I'm normally totally into a good sporner thread, but I have an horrendously sensitive gag reflex and this is literally my idea of hell!

BreviloquentBastard · 11/04/2023 00:28

I've had quinsy, you'd know if it was quinsy, you wouldn't need to ask Mumsnet. I had to carry a spit bucket for a month because swallowing was so painful I avoided it at all costs.

You have a sore throat and a tonsil stone.

thaegumathteth · 11/04/2023 00:52

You'd know if it was quinsy and you wouldn't be talking on the phone and posting on here ime

Cherryblossom99 · 12/04/2023 10:41

Couldn't get it out but I think I'm finally on the mend, woke up feeling a good bit better this morning
