whats with the D?

I'm new to this site, read lots of posts and even commented

what I'm trying to work out is what's with the D in front of describing people? its on so many posts
i.e. son, daughter, mother etc

ive worked out what SS,SC,MIL,DIL,BIL,ILS is short for i just cant work out what the D is

Dear. Darling. Darn. Deranged. 😁. Mostly the first two

I thought it stood for desperate and CF stands for cunt faced 🤷‍♀️

btw, the D was around on Internet chat boards way before Mumsnet

There's a list of acronyms somewhere on the site . But yes, D is Dear in my head. I have to stop myself saying dear daughter sometimes when I'm speaking to someone in real life.

It is a very, very old internet abbreviation that predates mumsnet. Dear or darling husband. Dear child. Etc.

my gen z teen likes to tell me we use the wrong abbreviations, the wrong punctuation, etc, and I point out to her that gen x colonized the internet and made up the original abbreviations and rules and we can keep using them as long as we want.

The thing is though with the dog he always is dear/Darling. The others not always 😄
