To ask how I do the Easter Bunny?!

OK my kids very much believe a large, smartly dress Bunny comes at night and leaves chocolate eggs hidden in the garden for them to find on Easter morning. Why? I don't really know. Om not sure I ever actually told them this but nevertheless this is what they are expecting and they're VERY excited this year. Its cute. They're little. I want to let them be little.

In our previous houses this has been easy to pull off (breakfast room and bedrooms not overlooking garden, or just much easier for me to sneak put early while they eat breakfast) however our new house both kids bedrooms overlook the garden and they wake up earlier than the sun, and will.no doubt have eyes glued on the garden from the moment they wake. The breakfast table overlooks the garden also.

I'd planned to put the eggs out before bed but got stuck under a baby till after dark. Now I'm in a panic because I can't figure out how I get the flipping eggs into the garden 🤣😭🤡

If the Bunny comes to your house how do you pull it off?

Uhhh, do it now with a torch....??

usethedata · 08/04/2023 22:17

We did strict rules of "you have to keep the curtains closed till we all go outside because peeking is cheating". Also the one year I put them out the night before there were slugs all over them in the morning so don't do that any more!

GiltEdges · 08/04/2023 22:22

I feel like I'm missing something. Why can't you just go out and do it now?

Comfies · 08/04/2023 22:24

Another vote for go and do it now.

Although, we usually do ours indoors! Not sure why. My family always did the same and I think dh's did too

thegrain · 08/04/2023 22:27

Foxes would eat them if I did mine now. Sometimes the easter bunny hides eggs inside.

Sylvaniandysfunctionalfamily · 08/04/2023 22:28

I just used to get up early and do it then...didn't want soggy eggs after sitting out in the dew all night. Sometimes we used to do treasure hunts indoors if the weather was bad.

Animalsoffartingwood · 08/04/2023 22:30

It's a rabbit. Clearly it can burrow its way in and burrow its way out. It's magic and thoughtful so fills in the hole before it leaves. Just chuck some dirt on your kitchen flaw, chalk rabbit footprints and act super annoyed in the morning, that the Easter bunny left a mess!

Aposterhasnoname · 08/04/2023 22:31

In our house sometimes Easter bunny was too busy to hide the eggs himself, or the weather was too bad, so he left a basket of them and the parents had to do it while the kids ate breakfast/got dressed/watched tv/whatever.

Tereseta · 08/04/2023 22:32

I just drop them discreetly while they are looking with a few hidden around the hpuse to distract them first.

MoandJo · 08/04/2023 22:33

I get the kids to go wake Daddy in bed/ he gets them to wake me whilst the other go down and “start making breakfast” and sneak out then to hide. I couldn’t do the night before as by the morning I’m sure some sort of animal would have eaten them!

PullingAtTeeth · 08/04/2023 22:34

Had the same dilemma tonight.
last year I got up ridiculously early. Like 4.45am and hid them. Easter egg hunt was done and over by about 7am 😂
so this year I’ve taken the eggs to my mums and she’s going to hide them. I’ve written a letter from the Easter bunny for my kids to find in the morning saying the dog scared him off so he’s left the eggs hidden and granny’s!

PatchworkElmer · 08/04/2023 22:34

I’m setting an alarm to go out before DC wake up.

SparkleSpangle · 08/04/2023 22:37

Put on 'Hop' for them to watch while you put the eggs out.

BettyBoopy · 08/04/2023 22:38

I've set ours up inside as I'm worried about rats/foxes eating them!

mondaytosunday · 08/04/2023 22:43

Don't put them out now - classic mistake if you have any foxes or wildlife! Just get up before te kids - if they normally wake at six get up at 5. Or have your partner put the tv on in the front room or read them a story.

Beginningless · 08/04/2023 22:46

Wow this is insane, I didn’t know that it was a thing for kids to ‘believe’ in the Easter bunny like Santa! Wasn’t when I was wee and wouldn’t think to do that for my kids. And what a relief judging by suggestions to get up at 5am! Good luck bunnies…

Comfies · 08/04/2023 22:49

I believed in the Easter bunny when I was wee and I'm nearly 40 😄. May vary from family to family. My dc1 was a firm believer but I don't think dc2 has the same imagination. Also dc1 is my helper so it's all been much less discreet since she found out

Yayyayitsaholiholiday · 08/04/2023 22:50

Get up at 5am on a Sunday to set up Easter eggs?! 😳
This is one of the (many) reasons I don’t have kids!!!!

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 08/04/2023 22:52

Honestly, kids don’t give a shit if you tell them you are going to hide the eggs 5 mins before they try to find them.

Hide your eyes kids….
yay, let’s find the eggs….
Whah, he’s got more eggs than me….
Every (fucking) year I make you share the eggs so you get equal eggs….
Can you do it again, best out of three???

OhOGee · 08/04/2023 22:55

I wouldn't put them out tonight. Like others have said, something could eat them.

Are we talking those smaller hollow eggs? Is it possible you could go out with dc in the morning and drop the eggs as they are looking elsewhere?

Sodullincomparison · 08/04/2023 22:56

We have hidden little eggs and treats around the kitchen, hall and living room.

last year, we did it with friends and we planted them outside but the girls didn’t know what to expect so it was easy to set up.

there is a little bag outside DD5’s room for her to find in the morning to go and hunt around.

so annoying because she thinks this happens every year and it was only by luck I got some egg hunt eggs this year.

she said “in the morning I have to keep my pyjamas on to go on the treasure hunt”

tumtitum · 08/04/2023 22:56

Get their dad to distract them in the morning whilst you quickly run outside! Or failing that cartoons...

I'm with you, this is baffling! I have three young children and none of them actually believe there is an Easter bunny, it never even occurred to me to present it that way. We do do a little egg hunt in the garden if the weather is ok, but they know it's us who hide the eggs and they don't seem any less enchanted by the whole thing (until the arguing starts, obviously).

I never believed this as a kid either, I think we just got eggs from relatives and things, I never believed in a bunny.

FrillyGoatFluff · 08/04/2023 22:58

I surely you got up early and let the bunny in, and gave him a carrot cos he needed some energy, so he hid the eggs indoors this year. Bite the end off a carrot for added sneaky factor... 😂

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 08/04/2023 23:00

We don't do real chocolate eggs from easter bunny, painted or plastic eggs in thegarddn for the hunt and all chocolate onss from family
