Feeling like I have too much responsibility at work

I'm a senior care assistant and I now have 33 sets of medication to hand out on my own, some residents are on 11 different tablets.
My Mum is a nurse and couldn't believe that I am having to give out that many on my own, she said there are always two seniors/nurses handing out medication.

Some of our other seniors ask care staff to hand out half their tablets, but this isn't right as they haven't been trained in medication.

I am starting to feel its unsafe, but they simply won't pay for 2 senior staff on a shift/don't have the staffing.

I had 26 when I started which was manageable, but it's 33 and we've got capacity for 36.
All this for £11.90 an hour.
Aibu to look for something else?

Not all in blister packs either. Seniors/team leaders are also expected to help out on the floor during a shift as there simply isn't the staff to assist all residents with care between them

sounds horrific - and unsafe

find another job, and report them!

It’s not mumsnet you should be raising this with

it is management, particularly Some of our other seniors ask care staff to hand out half their tablets, but this isn't right as they haven't been trained in medication.

this is the lives of vulnerable people we are talking about OP.

Hand in your notice and leave they will not change and your Mum is correct this is not safe practice. There are loads of jobs for professionals like you too.

Find another job and report them to CQC.

Jojobalone · 08/04/2023 07:13

It’s stressful for you

It’s life threatening to the residents OP!
