5 year old. Just been cinema. Had a lemon muffin pre film and popcorn whilst at film. Has started kicking off wanting an ice cream? Aibu to say no?

Do you really need MN to make simple parenting decisions like this for you? Or are you hoping for a good old frothy “you may as well give a 5yo crack cocaine / no wonder we have an obesity crisis / make him / her a massive salad instead” thread?

You're the parent, of you think he's had enough snacks then you think he's had enough. Instead of a flat no why don't you pick a day when he can have it - "ice cream is a great idea, let's go out for some on Monday" often goes over better than a "no, you can't have one".

Yeah, YABU. These threads always blow up.

You know the answer to that.

I am not anti sugar at all, but if he’s eating that much snack food he needed a bigger meal or a healthy filling snack that he didn’t get.

Once sweet cinema treat is enough.
