Teachers have always known the right wing press hate us but AIBU to think this is stopping to a new low?

The delays in Dover are caused by French teachers according to this headline!

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11946363/The-man-woman-ruining-Easter-holidays.html

(and only one is a teacher)

This proves just how much the right wing press will take any opportunity to denigrate teachers.

Revealed - The man and woman ruining YOUR Easter holidays

The heads of France's eight biggest unions stormed out of a meeting in Paris today with Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne.

You think that article is bashing teachers?

MrsMurphyIWish · 06/04/2023 19:50

No, but I’m wondering why teachers are mentioned in the title when it has no relevance to the circumstances.

Enjoy the holidays, makes a change from being on strike.

Forever42 · 06/04/2023 19:52

An opportunity to bash both teachers and the French - a dream come true for the Daily Mail!

Lorrymum · 06/04/2023 19:52

Don't think they need right wing press at the moment. They are doing a pretty good job of denigrating themselves.

No, but I’m wondering why teachers are mentioned in the title when it has no relevance to the circumstances.

It also mentions they are a man and woman, French and union bosses. Their profession/original profession is part of the description

MrsMurphyIWish · 06/04/2023 19:56

Let’s not trolls derail from my OP.

The headline reads: Revealed - The man and woman ruining YOUR Easter holidays: Ex-school supervisor and substitute teacher are the French union barons heaping misery on tens of thousands of travellers on both sides of the Channel

Why mention teachers at all?

But why? I’m sure if they were a retail worker it wouldn’t be in the headline.

Yesterday Gillian Keegan wrote an editorial for the DM. They have an agenda against teachers.

When the government have fucked up the country, the right wing press will always seek to shift the blame to absolutely anyone but the government

Yep

MrsMurphyIWish · 06/04/2023 20:03

IceMagic · 06/04/2023 20:00

Yep

Absolutely.

We all know that in the scrolling age that people don’t read articles, just the headlines. This is just another opportunity to place a slur on teachers. There’s just no need to mention job titles at all.

Also there’s no reason at all to blame two people for the delays.

noblegiraffe · 06/04/2023 20:04

The Mail have always hated teachers.

But yes, the headline "Ex-school supervisor and substitute teacher are the French union barons heaping misery" when the article mentions 8 big unions, and doesn't explain which one is an ex school supervisor. It does mention one being a philosophy graduate. 🤷‍♀️

anon666 · 06/04/2023 20:07

I think teacher bashing on the part of the right wing press is unacceptable.

Teachers work ridiculously hard but the general public are goaded to think they are all a bunch of wasters wearing cardigans and loafers, with super long holidays.

Dh is a teacher and works literally twice my hours, including weekends, "holidays" and evenings. He literally never clocks off.

I'd have burnt out years ago if I was a teacher.

Plus it's so depressing seeing your profession constantly undermined.

YANBU

I think they forgot “militant” though.

The French unions are really showing the Daily Mail what militant actually looks like.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/04/2023 20:26

The RW press hate teachers because teachers give working class kids ideas above their station.

Clavinova · 06/04/2023 20:47

I think they forgot “militant” though

The left-wing press didn't forget 'militant' here - the Guardian April 2009;

Here we are then, at an Easter conference where teachers can conclusively make the point that they, and not Whitehall, are the best guardians of children's interests. And what do they do, standing in front of an open goal at long last? Why, they take out a couple of pistols and shoot themselves in both feet.

The teachers didn't concentrate on the issue of how tests and targets wreck genuine education. Instead, they focused on themselves. They demanded a 10% pay rise - on the grounds that bankers had done exceptionally well over the last few years, and now it was the teachers' turn to catch up...

What timing. What judgment. Here were militant employees with secure jobs and good pensions picking this particular moment in our economic history to demand less work for more money.

Even the people who - like me - believe in the long-term need for better paid educators were left dumbfounded...

teachers once again looked like people who could be portrayed as whingeing professionals, out for themselves.

The French unions are really showing the Daily Mail what militant actually looks like.

True, they aren't highlighting the left wing protests in Sainte-Soline against a new reservoir in a region that has been plagued by droughts.

They also aren't championing the use of police tactics and water canons used to counter the 'militant' force that if it was applied to the UK would be considered a right wing protest.

The new vouge is it to pick and choose the french demonstrations, it wasn't so long ago that the yellow jackets where considered right wing even though there is documented proof they have just moved onto these demonstrations.

Another thread where no one ever reads the daily mail, but everyone seems to quote from it. Everyone else also never reads the mail but seems to know every story ever published in it.
