Fly

Settle a low-level argument.

You’re in work and have a splitting headache. You find two painkillers at the bottom of your handbag- the type that dissolve in water.

You’re unable to leave the office to go to a pharmacy due to the particular work you’re doing (conducting training in an office that’s quite remote).

You add your painkillers to a glass of water and let it sit to the side to dissolve. After a couple of minutes, you go to take the drink but can see that a fruit fly has flown in and drowned.

Do you-
A) fish the fly out and take the medication?
B) throw the medication away and put up with the headache until after 5.30pm when you’ll be able to leave your workplace and go to a pharmacy?

Fish the fly out 🤷‍♀️

OoooohMatron · 06/04/2023 13:16

Obviously fish out the fly

BeachBlondey · 06/04/2023 13:16

A. It won't harm you at all. I've done this many times with a glass of wine - no way I'm wasting that!

Chat135456 · 06/04/2023 13:16

Defo fish the fly out. We don’t live in a sterile environment anyway so all eating/drinking holds an element of risk that the immune system deals with.

Ktime · 06/04/2023 13:17

Fish the fly out of course!

We'll all be eating insects for protein in the future.

The edible insects market will grow to $6.3bn by 2030

Chat135456 · 06/04/2023 13:17

I‘m curious what your position was, OP.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 06/04/2023 13:17

Drink the fly. Extra protein

KnickerlessParsons · 06/04/2023 13:17

Fish the fly out, though it wouldn't really matter if you swallowed the fly.

WoodenFloorboards · 06/04/2023 13:17

A. If it was a bluebottle or a housefly I might have more qualms, but fruit flies are teeny.

Some people eat the weevils in their porridge for extra protein rather than sieve them out.

Thanks all.

I’m the person with the headache and fished the fly out. I do it with wine too. Probably wouldn’t with a house fly or larger, as another poster mentioned, but a midge or fruit fly I wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

A colleague saw me doing this and is annoyingly making a big deal of it. I don’t know if it’s the headache making my tolerance level for her even lower, but if I hear her cackling about me drinking something that has fly pee in it once more, I’ll scream.

I think she must have lived a very sheltered life because she has just not stopped on and on about it.

I would also fish the fly out.

bigbluebus · 06/04/2023 15:49

Is your colleague 12! Cackling fgs. I absolutely would have done the same as you.

Emigratingimmigrant · 06/04/2023 15:59

Flies don't pee per se. As far as I know they don't have bladder so everything that comes out is essentially poop.
So no pee in your medicine 😁

Fairislefandango · 06/04/2023 16:00

A
Your colleague is ridiculous.
