Saw a female GP she was with a medical student mentioned a lump while I was there on my back. She mentioned about me losing weight I have a BMI of 21 so definitely far from overweight. I'm 30 and 5 feet 5 I weight train and I'm quite active She rolled her eyes at the medical student when I told her this it felt really bitchy. Are medical staff now advising people of healthy weights to lose more weight ? I worry about people who are vulnerable to eating disorders. Especially with the laughing with another member of staff it felt very unprofessional . AIBU to complain ?

Definitely complain.

Are you sure she wasn't asking if you have recently lost weight without trying? Women tend to be happy about weightloss and may not have thought to link the 2.

Maybe the GP was trying to fact find your symptoms as you mentioned a lump and perhaps it's a common defence mechanism by patients to take the question the wrong way. Although the sniggering in an inside joke way is unprofessional of them.

So did she say:

Have you lost weight?
Are you trying to lose weight?
You should lose weight?
You need to lose weight?

ScentOfAMemory · 06/04/2023 12:36

Did she weigh you?
If you are muscly and short, you might not look that fit.

SophiaSW1 · 06/04/2023 12:37

It's hard to say without you saying exactly what she said

Wingedharpy · 06/04/2023 12:41

What's happened about the lump?

memyselfi · 06/04/2023 12:44

It seems an odd thing for her to say as you're obviously a normal weight .
Are you sure there wasn't some misunderstanding?

How did "rolling her eyes" get to "laughing with another member of staff"?
