To go in for surgery with a cold

I’m due to go for surgery with a general anaesthetic today and I’ve just woken up with a mild cold - sore throat and congested nose.

will it still go ahead? Can’t find a definitive answer online

I would've thought not! Sorry.

I've been told a little mild cold is ok, but not heavily congested, and not covid obviously.

I'd go in and let them decide. After phoning any phone number on the letter and getting no answer obviously.

My kids have had surgery with mild colds, they seem to have constant colds so I don't think it would ever get done if we waited for them to not have colds! They usually listen to their chest and base it on if their breathing sounds compromised. You could always phone ahead and let them know but I think you'd be fine.

I had a hysterectomy with a minor snuffle. It was fine.

Go in. They'll decide based on how you are and the urgency of the surgery.

The anaesthetist will decide whether surgery is safe

Thanks everyone - just an update for anyone looking at this thread for advice in the future, the anaesthetist decided it was safe to go ahead

Hope you're feeling OK today! My mum was in the same situation in Feb - her surgery went ahead too.
