AIBU to think McDonald’s has lost the plot

So I always have the odd McDonald’s with the kids in the holidays, so twice this week I have been in there. Both times they forgot the fries and both times it was cold and tasteless. My chicken sandwich was so thin with barely any mayo.
Now I have been eating fairly clean recently so maybe my taste buds have changed, or has anyone else noticed a decline?

They stopped doing mystery shops at around the same time as setting up the screen kiosks. I go there maybe twice a month and to loads of different ones too and you now wait ages for your food and there are masses of people in a huge clog, all waiting. I'm not sure how they've managed to make it worse.

When I worked in one in 2005, they would make up the hot drawers of high turnover items - cheeseburgers, big macs etc so if someone ordered one, it could be popped straight in the bag. Now it seems everything is cooked to order so is very slow, and also mysteriously comes out cold. The fries are very often cold or over or under salted.

I did read somewhere that they prioritise delivery orders, which I find bizarre that people are even ordering for delivery. The food won't even stay hot on its way to a table, how will it stay hot on its way to your house with a icy coke in the bag too?

Hawkins003 · 05/04/2023 18:45

It's a mix on the temperature of the food, I like it as a treat but personally it's not great nutrition wise.

tillytoodles1 · 05/04/2023 18:51

Our local ASDA replaced the cafe with a McDonald's and the food in there is always fresh and hot, you can see the items being made and placed on the shelves behind the servers.

However I've always (30 years)found the soft drinks to be dreadful. Always totally flat. They can't be bothered to change the gas in the machine. It's horrible. I complained about that once and the woman put her mouth on my drink to have a sip, told me it tasted fine to her, and handed it back to me.

the fact is, healthy food tastes worse.

I really honestly think that our taste buds adapt to the kind of food we usually eat. The more salt you usually put on your food, the more you miss it if you eat unsalted food.

The same happens with sugar.

Sweetened coffee or tea tastes horrible for anyone whose tastebuds have got used unsweetened drinks.

Cheap, manufactured food relies on fat and sugar / sweetness plus heavy advertising in order to be highly palatable. If you are used to eating it, then it will indeed be very, very tempting.

The only thing that reliably stops me being tempted by it is that I know that the first bite is the easiest to resist. And how much better I feel when I am not tempted, and that this is reflected in how much energy I have.

Trinity65 · 05/04/2023 19:11

Totally agree
I saw nothing wrong with how things were. Now its a combat zone with the delivery drivers hanging around too and waiting for your order number to finally show up as being prepared etc.
I have stopped eating them as they give me indigestion these days (might be an age thing perhaps) and half the time the burgers seem to just be plopped on any old how.
As for home delivered ones,,,, well, I put it in the microwave as its always cold.

The only thing I do like is a breakfast McMuffin meal but I eat those in a McD's as they would no doubt arrive cold too.

Trinity65 · 05/04/2023 19:12

Oh I forgot to add

I once found a hair in my home delivered burger that was not mine
The hair was brown, my hair is reddish.

Yes for the price, it's actually been good. Higher quality food than places like harvester etc.

It's just a bit rubbish ever since delivery orders have taken over and ruined the cook to order model.

Absolutely

I mean it's shit yes.
Always has been.
Also destroys loads of rainforest to rear it's beef.
Why bother?

KateAusten · 05/04/2023 19:15

OP, it's shit, expensive food

I think you're expecting far too much

Callipygion · 05/04/2023 19:22

Last thing I had there was the apple pie and a coffee. The pie was cardboard-y not crisp like it usually is. After I’d finished it I did notice it had been given to me after the ‘discard by’ time on the end of it, so it might have been that. I don’t think some of their staff can cope with a 24-hour clock. I should have complained but I’d already eaten it.

Ellemeg82 · 05/04/2023 19:27

I just find it so slow since they started doing all the McDelivery and JustEat orders.
You literally wait 15/20 mins for food every time! They always seem to prioritise the JustEat orders and seems totally unable to cope with the volume.

CarPoor · 05/04/2023 20:36

Yeah it's gone really shit

I blame deliveroo/ubereats. Now it's cold and rushed and I have to wait ages amongst shouting deliveroo drivers. And drive through taking priority

Also they've really limited their menu, it's so boring most of the time. No sausage egg cheese bagel, no chicken legend.

OneTC · 05/04/2023 16:07

It used to be fatty salty cardboard but now it's just cardboard, same thing has happened to ready meals

Where are you getting this nonsense from?! The beef is 100% British & Irish, the chicken is 100% breast; the bread is Warburtons the eggs are organic, as is the milk! The only thing not good quality is perhaps the cheese slices! But of course, it's served by a fast food outlet so it's automatically cardboard 🙄🙄🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

SchoolTripDrama · 05/04/2023 21:46

Neededanewuserhandle · 05/04/2023 17:15

YABU McDonalds has always been cardboard.

You mean besides the 100% chicken breast, 100% British & Irish beef, organic eggs & milk & Warburtons bread? I presume you eat nothing but homegrown vegetables and lentil soup?!

Nottodayicant · 05/04/2023 21:47

It’s absolute muck and just keeps getting worse.

All their beef is 10"% British or Irish. Since when did we have rainforests in Britain or Ireland?!?! Please do tell! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

HouseByTheSeaside · 05/04/2023 21:50

@SchoolTripDrama you do really it's a global company right?

earsup · 05/04/2023 21:55

I sometimes get a coffee from ones in central london, its quite nice for £1.29, the local one to us is horrendous, 4 security guards and teens fighting almost every day, wish it would just close down.

Judellie · 05/04/2023 21:57

I used to like to get a latte there but twice I've been and they've had no hot drinks (?!).
Not too keen on the food apart from the pineapple sticks. Needless to say, they hardly ever have them!

Catsmere · 05/04/2023 21:58

Did Macca’s ever have the plot? Their burgers were always dire, those awful soft sugary buns, ugh. Their chips were the only saving grace.

josball1986 · 05/04/2023 22:08

I always select extra mayo on mine. It always tastes so much better. Our mcdonalds vary from one to the other

Bimblybomeyelash · 05/04/2023 22:10

The two in my town vary massively. Unfortunately the more conveniently located one is always absolutely heaving, it often takes 20 minutes to get food, and
somehow when it arrives the fries are always cold. The other one actually serves hot food and has absolutely lovely staff who are always cleaning.
