AIBU to think McDonald’s has lost the plot

So I always have the odd McDonald’s with the kids in the holidays, so twice this week I have been in there. Both times they forgot the fries and both times it was cold and tasteless. My chicken sandwich was so thin with barely any mayo.
Now I have been eating fairly clean recently so maybe my taste buds have changed, or has anyone else noticed a decline?

The one I worked at when I was a teenager had management who took true pride in the job. It was run amazingly, staff felt supported, they took us to Alton Towers, the place was spotless, mistakes were rare and I remember the food tasting good.

I don't buy Maccys myself nowadays but whenever I go with a friend or relative who wants one there is ALWAYS a problem with the order and I have no idea what has happened to the fries. They're inedible nowadays.

OneTC · 05/04/2023 16:16

Closely followed, perhaps tied with, coffee

Keeween · 05/04/2023 16:18

They vary so much. Our closest McDonald’s is actually really good but the one the next town along is absolute shit.

LynetteScavo · 05/04/2023 16:19

I think it depends on which restaurant you go to. I'm lucky that my local one is good - it's new and has a special part for deliveroo collections so they don't affect other orders. The staff are always friendly there, not like some of the misery guts in other towns. My only gripe is that the coke always tastes fruity. Apparently there is an issue with the machine which means oasis and Coke gets mixed up. And the price. I'm sure not so long ago you could feed a family of four for £5 - now my lunch costs about £8.50, not including ketchup, which is extra.

We have 1 great maccas near us, and one terrible one. I thoroughly enjoy a good maccas and have been happily poisoning my kids with them for 28 years.
Nothing worse than a disappointing experience.

WellTidy · 05/04/2023 16:23

Ive always loved McDonalds but am giving it a steer at the moment. Last order was cold and really tasteless. Compared to Five Guys, where DS and I went today, it was truly awful. That said, Five Guys is much more expensive. If I want a burger, I think I’d rather go fewer times and have Five Guys instead.

FFS Hmm

Why do I deserve a FFS, I obviously mean before this week, with kids at home and us eating in McDonald’s.

I have no idea what the eye roll was about either. I think the phrase "clean eating" gets some peoples backs up for some bizarre reason, the same way all the Daily Fail readers all have a collective aneurysm if the article refers to "hacks" instead of "tips".

Wellillsayitifnooneelsewill · 05/04/2023 16:32

Our local one is shite!!

Every time we go there is something wrong. I think the manager literally only hires stupid people

ThunderDad · 05/04/2023 16:32

It all went downhill when they got rid of Krusty the Clown.

gogohmm · 05/04/2023 16:34

Not noticed it myself but it's a franchise branch here and the only branch for that owner

Bauhausstolemyhair · 05/04/2023 16:40

Not all McDonald's are equal. They're franchised so some will be better than others. In my experience, the ones who have more delivery customers are just depressing to eat in with all the drivers staring at you eating what should be a quick lunch or dinner. Usually it takes ages and the food is cold as the staff a prioritising deliveries.

Try a different one OP.

teenagetantrums · 05/04/2023 16:41

The chips are always lukewarm in our local one. But the burgers and wraps are always good and they customise them for you.
I can't understand people getting a home delivery though. If we bring ours home which is a five minutes drive the chips are cold.

Rachaelrachael · 05/04/2023 16:41

I haven't had one since I found a pube on top of my fillet o fish a couple of years ago😷

Pixiedust1234 · 05/04/2023 16:41

We've noticed it this past year. Usually cold.

DB uses several different ones and he says the same. Cold, less sauce, less "joy". The whole experience seems flat.

RedToothBrush · 05/04/2023 16:42

Choconut · 05/04/2023 15:42

They vary hugely from one to another, some are also franchised. There tend to be lots around so perhaps try a different one.

This is the issue.

There are some branches which are supposed to be amazing.

My current bug is my local one WILL NOT give books in a happy meal, even if you explicitly ask. Its happened EVERY time we've tried. We have regularly had this issue at other branches too, but our local one is particularly bad. This really bugs me because one of their current marketing strategies is pushing how many books McDonalds have helped distribute to children.

So if anyone from senior McDonalds management does read this:

SORT IT OUT AND GET MYSTERY SHOPPERS ON TO THIS AS ITS REALLY IRRITATING.

Yes! I had one in Gdansk last month, a breaded Chicken burger. It had a lovely sauce, the Chicken was thick, juicy and tasty. The Fries were crispy and piping hot. I took my daughter to one near us in Leeds this week and I got a McSpicy Chicken burger, it was thin and dry and they'd apparently tried to make up for a skimpy amount of salad and sauce by making the chicken overly spicy. The Fries were cold and limp. It bore no resemblance to the one in Gdansk.

Mycatisfatafatcat · 05/04/2023 16:43

I had THE most delicious one the other day. However my local one has gone downhill so much everyone I know has stopped ordering. They get overwhelmed by deliveries and everything is cold and takes an age. They should stop deliveries from restaurants, set up dark kitchens and do what they do best.

itsgettingweird · 05/04/2023 16:44

I haven't bothered with McDonald's for months.

Since I went to a drive through. Went straight through and was 2nd person in queue ordering.

And then made to wait in the car park for 35 minutes for my meal as they prioritise deliveries.

Quite frankly since it stopped being 'fast' - fast food - I don't bother anymore.

It happened when I use to go in and use kiosk to sit and eat in too - and yes it was cold.

Mycatisfatafatcat · 05/04/2023 16:44

And yes, never ever get a book even though we always ask for one

Whammyyammy · 05/04/2023 16:45

Has macdonalds ever been good?

00100001 · 05/04/2023 16:48

Whammyyammy · 05/04/2023 16:45

Has macdonalds ever been good?

Yes for the price, it's actually been good. Higher quality food than places like harvester etc.

It's just a bit rubbish ever since delivery orders have taken over and ruined the cook to order model.

RedToothBrush · 05/04/2023 16:49

Whammyyammy · 05/04/2023 16:45

Has macdonalds ever been good?

Its reliable and cheap. And yes I do like it.

If all else fails its an easy option.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 05/04/2023 16:49

Was fine in Bicester when we went. You just have a bad franchisee.

thegrain · 05/04/2023 16:49

ChristineCricket · 05/04/2023 15:44

The one I went on today is my usual one and I do think the chicken sandwich used to ooze mayo.

Maybe it's a calorie thing
