OutofControl3 · 04/04/2023 16:14

My baby crying on the bus for 4 stops, I couldn't do anything as bus is bouncy so left baby to cry in pram stroking face and shh in. As I was gettin off I heard a man hooray which has really got my back up I look to back of bus and give a dirty look. I got off my stop sat at bus stop and breasfed my child cue baby stops crying and I could carry on with our afternoon. Baby's cry for gods sake what could I of done?

Nothing, he was a wanker. The majority of the bus probably thought he was a wanker too. Don’t give him another minute’s though 💐

MaltedCow · 04/04/2023 16:16

Babies cry, anyone that expects otherwise is deluded. The man sounds like a prick, don't let it ruin your day.

Stripycatz · 04/04/2023 16:17

Ignore the ignorant shit. People forget they were babies too once.

G58 · 04/04/2023 16:18

That's on him and not you. He probably couldn't hear his iPhone music that he was trying to impress his "m8s" with. Forget him.

DaaamnYoullDo · 04/04/2023 16:19

Everybody on that bus thought "knobhead." At the exact same time. I guarantee.

TomatoSandwiches · 04/04/2023 16:19

Every other person on the bus would be relieved when you got off but they also understand it's what happens with babies.
I guarantee nearly everyone thinks he was a twat for the hooray, don't give it any more thought, there's nothing else you could do.

Cherryblossomtreesforever · 04/04/2023 16:19

Babies cry, as do children with disabilities (my own experience).
People react in cruel ways, but thankfully most people understand.

MRex · 04/04/2023 16:26

I would have got off sooner or sat with the baby to feed (just ask any random to hold the pram, nobody ever said no), but that was because we preferred not to leave DS crying rather than caring what other passengers thought. DS tended more to travel sickness, so it wasn't worth taking risks with him. Plenty do it your way though and let their baby cry a little, so don't overthink it.

Nobody actually enjoys hearing a kid crying, so while he was rude his reaction really wasn't worth getting grumpy about. There will always be people with opinions that you're doing something wrong with your child, so you're going to have to grow a thicker skin I'm afraid, particularly before you have a toddler out in public making loud comments and being a general trip hazard.

OhMyCherriePie · 04/04/2023 16:26

I had something similar but much worse a man actually started screaming at me because my son was crying on the bus literally started calling me all the names under the sun, I get off after a few stops and burst into tears.

Murdoch1949 · 04/04/2023 16:29

You couldn't do anything, of course, but also you can't deny that crying babies grate on some people, and they can get annoyed. At least he waited until you disembarked.

IhearyouClemFandango · 04/04/2023 16:30

For 4 stops I'd have fed the baby on the bus tbh

purplecorkheart · 04/04/2023 16:32

If it bothered him that much he could have got off. Honestly I wouldn't give him a second thought. You can't help your baby crying. I bet he would have not done the same if your baby was with his dad

NewNameNigel · 04/04/2023 16:33

I mean I imagine everyone on the bus was secretly thinking hooray that they no longer had to share with a crying baby but it was very rude of him to say it, particularly within your earshot.

SnowyGiveAway · 04/04/2023 16:33

Babies cry on the bus! It's even in the song, everyone knows the baby on the bus goes wah wah wah, he's just ignorant and can be safely ignored

Cheeky git ! I hope you threw your dirtiest of looks 😄

SpareHeirOverThere · 04/04/2023 16:34

He was an arse. You were fine. The person most upset by the baby crying is invariably its parent. Sometimes you just can't do anything other than rock and shush and wait.

ColdHandsHotHead · 04/04/2023 16:42

The last time I was on a bus with a howling baby (about 18 months old), I opened a bag of jelly babies and fed it three (with mum's permission). Instant silence.

ChillysWaterBottle · 04/04/2023 17:08

He was a dickhead OP and I wouldn't give him a second thought.

Inthesamesinkingboat · 04/04/2023 17:10

Babies crying are bloody annoying. If he didn’t want to be near something so irritating he should’ve paid for a taxi.

Really weird behaviour. Who gives a a jelly baby to an 18 month old never mind one that’s not their own?

L3ThirtySeven · 04/04/2023 17:13

Depends how long four stops are? Out here that’s a good 15-20mins. I would have got off and fed the baby and then got on the next bus. I couldn’t leave my babies to cry for very long.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 04/04/2023 17:14

If my baby needed breastfeeding I would have fed them on the bus.

Gistbury · 04/04/2023 17:15

He's obnoxious and I'm cross he upset you

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 04/04/2023 17:18

As long as you weren't ignoring your child then you shouldn't worry! I do hate it when babies cry and their parents ignore them, it's horrible when they are distressed and are being left to it.

Ponderingwindow · 04/04/2023 17:18

I kind of get the annoyance when the parent isn’t doing anything to help the distressed baby. you can breastfeed on the bus or at least pick up the baby. shouting out isn’t justified though.
