My baby crying on the bus for 4 stops, I couldn't do anything as bus is bouncy so left baby to cry in pram stroking face and shh in. As I was gettin off I heard a man hooray which has really got my back up I look to back of bus and give a dirty look. I got off my stop sat at bus stop and breasfed my child cue baby stops crying and I could carry on with our afternoon. Baby's cry for gods sake what could I of done?

The last time I was on a bus with a howling baby (about 18 months old), I opened a bag of jelly babies and fed it three (with mum's permission). Instant silence.

That's how my grandma got me to shut up at my uncles wedding, hah

You can see in my uncle & aunts wedding video my grandma just constantly feeding me jelly babies so I'd be quiet during the ceremony (mum was busy with my newborn brother)😂

Mylittlefanny · 04/04/2023 17:30

You did everything you could. As long as you arent ignoring the kid. Sod him!

Baabaa75 · 04/04/2023 17:32

What can you do babies cry and wankers will be wankers 🤷 don't give it another thought xx

Everybody on that bus thought "knobhead." At the exact same time. I guarantee.

No, they thought the exact same thing the man did, they just didn't vocalise it.

BadNomad · 04/04/2023 17:35

Most people probably thought the same. But most people have better manners than to vocalise it.

WalkLong · 04/04/2023 17:37

Why could you feed the baby at a bus stop but not on the bus? That's what I'd have done.

As PPs said, everyone would be glad when you got off, most would also be sympathising with you though and judging him more harshly than you.

Maybe he was on his way home from a particularly difficult day or maybe he had a banging head or something, we all say something we shouldn't now and again.

If my baby needed breastfeeding I would have fed them on the bus.

So would I.

weebleswobblebuttheydontfalldown · 04/04/2023 17:39

I remember similar happening to me, baby was over tired as been out too long in town so was walking home (which always helped him sleep) and a group of older ladies ran up and shouted at me to 'pick up my baby for goodness sake' and I was 'awful'. They really bellowed!!! I I was in that first few weeks of having no sleep as he had colic too! Was my second child thankfully so I knew what I was doing but still!! Gave me a real wobble I can tell you. It's so insensitive! Babies cry... a lot sometimes. Don't feel bad... he was very out of order indeed!! Big hugs 🤗

sleepylittlebunnies · 04/04/2023 17:39

Around here 4 stops wouldn’t be long enough to bother getting the baby out to feed. I’d have done what you did and waited until my stop while stroking and shushing. Don’t give him another thought though, he doesn’t deserve your headspace.

Sirzy · 04/04/2023 17:40

I don’t get why you didn’t feed the baby if you knew she needed feeding? Would have made things a lot less stressful all around surely?

Iam4eels · 04/04/2023 17:40

DramaAlpaca · 04/04/2023 17:38

So would I.

I would have too if I had a seat but if OP didn't have a seat then she couldn't. One of my DC was a leisurely feeder too and I wouldn't have had the time to feed before we got to our stop.

Probably because by the time she’d got baby out of the pram, latched on and settled into feeding it would be time to get off the bus

Depends how long four stops are? Out here that’s a good 15-20mins. I would have got off and fed the baby and then got on the next bus. I couldn’t leave my babies to cry for very long.

If you did that round here you could be waiting until the next day for the next bus!

ButterCrackers · 04/04/2023 17:41

Take your child out of the pram and breastfeed on the bus. If no one gives you a seat breastfeed standing up. Baby calm and you’ll feel calm too.

On a "bouncy", so presumably busy, bus? I wouldn't have been able to with any of my DC whilst safely holding them and holding onto the railing and the pram.

That sounds dangerous nobody is doing that 😳

ButterCrackers · 04/04/2023 17:44

Then someone should give a seat.

Babies crying on the bus is irritating, as is people eating smelly food, watching videos without headphones or having loud, foul mouthed conversations. But that's public transport. Don't give him another thought.

Someone should give a seat to the mother and child.

Just shout at passengers ,"give me a seat " come on !

Yeah it all depends on the timing of where you are. Four stops wouldn’t be enough time to feed a baby where I am either and lots are suggesting that too.

This is where a sling gets invaluable. Sling on, baby in sling and latch. Random person asked to watch the pram (drivers don't allow them to be unattended) and sit in their seat, then get off the bus with baby still feeding. Soft carrier like Close Caboo for a tiny one or a structured carrier like Lillebaby when they are bigger. You have to be blatant and ask for help if nobody offers seats.

OutofControl3 · 04/04/2023 17:51

Thanks for replies! I was due to get off and baby started it's one busy main road I would say 5mins max wouldn't of had time to get baby out settle and back in pram again i dont mind feeding wherever i am safely also baby feeds on demand so was asleep then woke up clearly starving..I had my toddler with me so that's why I didn't get off the bus sooner.
