What is this business with boy toddlers and long hair?!?!?!??!

There are quite a few in my dd's nursery class and I think it it quite bizarre.

Doesn't the fact that by the time they get to about Year 2, there are no boys in the class with long hair tell you something?

PYBF - I can feel your pain. My DS had (yes, HAD) beautiful hair, all natural streaks of blonde (he's 3). Saturday we decided to give it a trim as it was a little too long. DH kept cutting and cutting and the result was so appalling that we had to fetch the clippers and shave it all off. I am utterly devastated and can almost not look at him without welling up. He looks like a thug now, not a stunning little cutie.

aaarrrghhh i missed the pic. I'm loving the boys with hair thing at the moment, it takes me back to the 70s I really like it, reminds me of a carefree childhood, dont know why, its not like i had any brothers - it just seems so wholesome and urchin like. My BIL boys have skin heads with spikes, its not my choice i have to say.

I have a girl with long curly hair and it is a nightmare to comb and wash - i will need to get it cut soon, but i cant bear the thought.

My DD did this when she was 5 - although I strongly suspect DS was involved, judging by the speed with which he removed himself from the scene. I screamed in horror (she'd lopped a great crooked chunk off at the parting), and phoned my hairdresser who laughed and said "get over it. All kids do it." DO THEY?? I wish I'd known beforehand and I would have removed all scissors from the house completely. I'm afraid the sad reality is you just have to wait until it grows out. I can just about manage a wry grin now, when I see the photos, but it really did look awful - no hair bands/scrunchies/clips could get anywhere near disguising it, either, not that that would help you much with your DS.

too late to see the picture.

I remember whilst I was in labour with his little sister my DS1 cut his friend's hair. She had long thick hair. It was still long on top mind... She was due to have her photos done the next day.

Too late to see pics.

My DS (4) had the most gorgeous hair - wavy dark blond with golden highlights (natural!) and down to his shoulders. He was the envy of most of the other mums in the playground (although anyone over the age of 60 thought he was a girl). He was a dude! I used to get it trimmed every so often by my hairdresser who I trusted not to scalp him. Then just before christmas we had to go to a funeral (my father's) and I decided that DS should have a haircut. My normal haidresser was too busy (week before Christmas) so another girl offered to do it. Basically she gave him a girl's bob!

My husband was furious/mortified and just after Christmas I had to take him back (DS not husband) for a remedial haircut. He now has boy's hair and I miss his beautiful long hair so much.

I can't decide whether to let it grow again (which will take ages) or admit defeat and keep it short.
