I went into Waitrose last night to buy a few bit’s including a bottle of wine. Because I was buying wine I went to a staffed checkout because otherwise you have to wait for someone to come over and it can take a while. The man serving me was a bit too much on the friendly side, but whatever. He then asked for my ID, I am in my early 40s so made a joke when I handed it over “oh that’s made my day” expecting him to just give it a cursory glance, my DOB is so far from the legal limit it’s not like you need to do any mental maths.
he took ages reading and inspecting it and then made a comment about my street name.
at that point I felt a little intimidated, it felt like he was making a point that he had now read my address, knew where I lived. Surely if you asking for ID you should just keep to viewing the essentials. It felt really creepy. Would I be wrong to send a note to their head office about this?
