Toothache

I’ve been having worsening toothache all week. At first, it was a sensitivity to hot and cold and I thought I just needed a filling. I started taking ad hoc paracetamol Thursday, regular paracetamol Saturday, and Sunday morning I got some oragel (benzocaine 20%), and Sunday afternoon I was advised at the pharmacy to take ibuprofen.

I am now in intense pain, took paracetamol and benzocaine at 3am. I have rang 111 and they said to ring my dentist in the morning. My lip is numb and the pain radiates to my temple.

I feel alright, a bit cold, but I’m always cold and it is the middle of the night. My Fitbit says my heart rate is 57

should I go to a&e or should I wait for the dentist?

Could it be an abscess? Awful pain and I do sympathise. I am surprised you didn't call your dentist when the pain started last week, since dental pain only ever gets worse. I think the advice you've had is right thought, since A&E won't help with dental pain and it is not an accident or an emergency. Ring as soon as they open and describe the pain. I hope you get it sorted today op.

I honestly thought it was just a bit of sensitivity because I needed a filling. I rang my dentist and booked in for later this month, but the soonest they could get me in was in 3 weeks. I thought I’d be able to manage it as I had been because at the time it wasn’t too bad. Regretting not having it seen to sooner now
