Question for Londoners!

Hi- apologies just looking for traffic. I’m looking to get a private MRI as requested by a doctor. I can get booked in this week as quickly as tomorrow, however it would be a bit of a journey for me (but worth it to have it done asap). It’s in London (Hendon) and I’ll have to rely on public transport. I did see an appointment I could make which would finish around 5.30 and I would have to go back to Stansted airport to come home for a flight at around 9.30. Public transport times and google maps etc says it’s doable but I wasn’t sure if it was too tight as obviously there’s lots of traffic etc in London and I’ve never been there before.

if anyone has any tips/advice I would really appreciate it. It’s a really stressful time and I just want this over with asap x

Yes doable! Is your train to Stansted from Liverpool Street? If so you can go from Hendon Central to Moorgate on the northern line and then it’s a 10 minute walk to Liverpool Street

Woahtherehoney · 02/04/2023 21:07

And I hope all is ok with your MRI x

What route does it recommend?

From Hendon by tube (or tube/overground) Stratford, then train (about 45-60 mins once train is moving)??

It's the sort of journey that should work well, provided there are no strikes or other embuggerations.

OneTC · 02/04/2023 21:09

You can do it in about an hour and a half, don't travel back into town. Do you know how long the scan takes?

sn0wbun · 02/04/2023 21:09

In theory it should take you about 90 mins to get from Hendon to Stansted, so as long as everything runs on time for you, you should manage absolutely fine! Bear in mind the airport will be busier than usual with the Easter break.

Good luck OP! x

Honestly I would just book a 1 night hotel stay and fly the next morning. Even at a private facility you are taking a big risk that the appointment will be finished bang on time.

Woahtherehoney · 02/04/2023 21:09

Sorry just to add you can also do Hendon to Farringdon on Thameslink then one stop to Liverpool Street on the Elizabeth Line :)

Coaches go to Stansted from Golders Green coach station (just outside Golders Green tube station which is a stop from Hendon Central Tube Station) - I think it's about an hour from Golders Green to Stansted. Trains also go to Stansted (though may not be direct) from Hendon Train Station (note this is different to Hendon Central Tube Station) . You may need to Uber it to Hendon Train Station or can take bus depending where in Hendon you are. I'd say it's tight but doable. If you take 6 pm coach or train you could be at Stansted by 7 30? Just hand luggage you walk through.

Methodtomadness · 02/04/2023 21:12

Thank you so much for all the advice! I’ll just be hand luggaging it.

this is the recommended route as per google maps;

Actually don't go by train via Hendon Train Station. Just looked it up and it says close to 2 hours. I'd look at coaches from Golders Green which may be better.

Methodtomadness · 02/04/2023 21:20

Brilliant thanks for all the recommendations- greatly appreciate it :) im a bit wary of traffic or unexpected delays at the scanning site so I’m going to play it safe and give myself extra time and book for later in the week when the appointments work better with travelling etc. coming from Ireland for this so don’t want to get stuck and it’s not like I could drive home if that happened unfortunately. Thanks again for all the help :)

That’s brilliant thank you so so much! Very kind of you to go to all that effort for me :) I’m going to use that coach service when I do go/m- definitely seems much easier than the route google maps planned!

I am intrigued, is there nowhere in Ireland that can do your scan, or is it very high tech cutting edge stuff?

Anyway sorry for being nosey, and hope it all goes well. Just curious!

I would use trains, if the bus or coach uses the north circular, a406, its jammed and any accident slows it right down.
